Wackiest kit modification ?
« on: July 27, 2017, 07:44:15 PM »

I've got a pair of p1 and p2 aero thigh pads that i dont use much anymore because they slip down so much (i use remfry at training and strettons for matches). I love how i can use my strettons without straps under compression shorts .... so im thinking of modifying my aeros so i can use them , for training, in the same way i use my strettons.
My idea is to just cut off the straps (leaving the outer material there so the hip protector has a slot to go in still) and con someone i know , who can sew , or get a tailor , to stich back up the material post strap cutting .

This made me think of wacky mod jobs for cricket gear . Can't say I've ever done anything too extreme . Ive cut the knob off the handles of most of my bats and replace the twine with medical tape . I've used neoprene wetsuit offcuts to fashion a makeshift toe protector.  Ive put athletic spikes onto my two pairs of spiked cricket shoes . Ive sanded a few bats into slightly different shapes ,when refurbing them , to adjust balance and reduce weight ( ie , sanding out a spine into the toe and making it more of a duckbill etc ). And ..... that's about it .

I'm interested in hearing what wacky mods anyone else has gotten up to . Perhaps it might even inspire me to go butcher some of my kit !  :D

That is a good idea. Got pics?

I remember a bloke adding an extra wheel to his kit bag on this forum as it was dragging on the ground to much

I might be able to muster up something , but basically there's two ways :
- wrap neoprene into a tube , tape it together , slip it over big toe.
- cut out a strip of neoprene to sit inside the shoe or sock , kn top of toes , in any shape you deem suitable.

Early days on this forum I made a loop so that the thigh pad strap would stay in place.

Small men problems, removed an adult thigh pad from outer casing and cut the foam to size and shifted velcro to fit nicely, was happy with the result. I am yet to find a comfortable pair of thigh pads within a budget.
