Clubs in East Sussex
« on: July 30, 2017, 04:23:08 PM »

Hi all,

I'm moving down to Brighton at the end of summer for university, and I am in a quandary about which club to join next season. I have the option to join Firle, who are ESCL div 2, my brother is the 1s captain and I am guaranteed to bat in the top 5 and bowl. However, this would be a slight drop in level compared to where I am playing at the moment. My plan is to try and net with a few sides and see which ones I like before committing to anywhere, so does anyone have any knowledge of the Sussex premier division or ESCL division 1? I want to play at the highest level possible where I would still get a decent game.

NB my brother has told me that there is no point in me joining Firle if they get relegated as he reckons I would be wasted in div3.

Thanks in advance!

Know it well mate, know your brother too. Hailsham are a decent club, got a very very good overseas. We (Forest Row) have a little rivalry with them, due to firey first impressions and last game of the season champion decider.

Ringmer are a good side but the ground isnt my favourite!
I dont like Bells Yew Green apart from a couple.
Not played at st Peters but a few of the guys have and enjoyed it.

To be honest if you enjoy the people you play with then not alot more matters, plenty of clubs near Brighton that play in the Sussex premier league Div 6 which is a league above Div 1 ESCL.

Crowhurst park is a lovely ground played a couple of cup finals there!

If you need more info mate let me know

You definitely need to wait until next year before looking, the east, west and Sussex prem are looking to merge into a pyramid table to feed into 3 divisions of the Sussex prem, therefore Sussex prem div 3-6 will merge down etc...so depending on teams rankings a div 3 team could be restructured into div 5 ...and there being more leagues....

Have you not thought about West Sussex league? Plenty of good clubs, our 1XI are about to get promoted into Div 2 (scaynes hill cc, 18 min drive from brighton). But if your looking to play higher, I know several people at Cuckfield (Jeet Ravel, NZ Test opener is playing for them this year), Horsham, Ansty would be my personal advice, all a 15-30 min drive from Brighton.

We have just signed up a Sussex premier player as he fell out with the team, just wants to enjoy his cricket, had one social night with him and he paid for tour the next day.

We have a few irons in the fire to get back 3 Sussex prem players who could finish off their careers with us 😊

Cheers guys. As I say, the plan is to try a few net sessions and make a decision. I may be finishing this season at Firle if I can get registered so can make a decision on the standard then. Will have a look at all the clubs mentioned though. Always helps to know as well if they have leg spinners so I know if I will get a bowl!

I know a couple of guys at Ansty, plus a couple of uni team mates are at Horsham.

I haven't considered West Sussex to be honest, not sure why though.

I will speak to Charlie about that!

My first thought is that Bexhill is a bit far (45/50 mins from where I'm living) but all others are in a reasonable distance. Will be trying to find pics and detail about facilities now.

I'm also in Brighton for the summer, although moving back to London in September. Happy to share a net at Hove anytime.

Why would you not want to play here?

Well for starters - you clearly can't put the covers in the right place.

Secondly, who wants to bowl to that boundary?!!!
