Heard an interesting story last week about GM.
A NZ batsman sponsored by GM was breaking all his GM bats (not on purpose  ) and I heard that a lot of pro GM's were breaking last season. Anyway he was about to face the Aussie bowlers in the Chappell/Hadlee series this year and had no bats. GM had to send him an off the shelf model which by all accounts was much smaller than his usual bats as he uses 2.8. He was pretty good about it but was shocked at the size difference but had no choice to face Mitchell Stark et al with it. He managed to score a couple of 40's I think. So it can be done with bats available to the public.

First thought  as he got a couple of 40s How many would he have got with his bigger lighter  pro bat.

Lots of players below the elite , pros get grade 2 and 3 and still do very well with them.

Although true  it's hardly a secret that  for the pros brands skim off the lightest of the light best performing willow which  means the ball is going to fly off the blade.

Forget about the pros. The Same bat used by my captain vs me results in different performance. He can usually pick up anyone bat in the team and hit a six whereas most of us cannot do that at will. Just imagine what pros can do.
Off course, they would want to maximize output by getting the best performing stick.

I played Wimbledon Wanderers 6th XI (or WW6 as they like to be known) and they are good, one bloke, who gets all the runs, has a bat his sisters boyfriend got off a pro, I think he was at a Surrey boys summer camp and found one in a bin.

It's always been told to me (from the horses mouth) as the lowest grade they have, because that's the junk willow they always use when getting templates/shapes right for players, due to the amount of wasted bats they can sometimes make before they get something the player likes
