back on topic....

i think its great to see that a player in the same league as our club has been called up for a county team. however i still see it as a shock selection, hayman was only the 16th highest wicket taker in our league. and our 1st team opening batsman who scored 800 odd runs in the same league, was also the 4th highest wicket taker, played minor counties for devon for 5 years and is also a coach at somerset ccc hasnt had a look-in.......

also noticed richard walsh put your article in the independant, he seems to write in every newspaper around here! he's a nice guy, i sent him a match report last year and he put it in about 3 papers!

Ian, i guess Somerset have seen something in James. Somerset don't need batsman so your opening bat scoring 800 runs in what is the 3rd division of the pyramid system is never likely to get a look in. What somerset need is someone to replace Caddick. James has the height and build of a fast bowler. Obviously he is raw and will need to work very very hard to make it, but what a fantastic opportunity. The circumstances for James are perfect and i know he is going to give it a 100%. He has already made great strides in the last couple of months just training with better players and being coached by better coaches.

Ken - yes send your bats back and we will refurb and put our new labels on for you. Yes you never know on the sponsorship front. we have a few academy players (William Jenkins, Nick Carpenter) and a couple of minor county players (Neil Curnow and Jason Mcnally) signed up but the first team players comeat a price.

Fair point Bulldog, plenty of openers at somerset now, tresco, suppiah, compton, kieswetter the list could go on....

and i think nick carpenter is someone to look out for, played against him last year when he was only 13 and he was quality!! the same guy i was talking about in the previous post coaches him at taunton thinks he'll go far.... i did get him out though with my part-time offspin!

fair play, lets hope he does. something to tell your grandkids! a guy who i play friendlies with, well he plays about 5 times a year got michael vaughan out when they were both 16, and my mate is no cricketer! and another mate of mine bowled out james hildreth with his part-time crap when he played against millfield school. also, a good mate of mine bowled tim handcock last season (former glouscestershire batsman for about 10 years).

few good nuts in there!

yeah its good to see mate, enjoy playing against pros while you can. in the past couple of years our club has played against andrew caddick, carl gazzard, matt bulbeck, callum haggett, and recently contracted james hayman :D

i played against alastair cook in 2006, early september time. had him caught behind for 36. Caught behind prodding just outside off stump, Mcgrath esque...... Needless to say i remind people about it at every possible opportunity and im surprised it's taken me so long to bring it up on here.

p.s apologies for bringing it up in probably the wrong topic, but is been a good 45 minutes since i told somebody.
