Indoor Nets - Somerset

I want to do some indoor net coaching with my boys (aged 13 & 20) and a couple of other of our promising colts over the winter but I’m struggling to find a venue.

Bridgwater College seem pretty booked up (and expensive) & I will try for a lane at Somerset Indoor school this week, but from memory that’s not straightforward either.

Thinking two hours a week preferably on a Sunday - any ideas?

have you tried the county ground bristol? not sure how far that is from you though.

There’s also merchants academy on the other side of bristol that used to hire out a bowling machine and nets

There is also Weston cricket club who have an indoor facilit and Mark college both are cheaper than the county ground but not as good

Thanks guys - latest thoughts are along the lines of decent school nets.
It’s fairly costly just trying to net with the kids once a week

So we are using Haygrove school this weekend - word on the street is that they are a bit bouncy
I’ve also got new balls - it could be great prep for a late call up for the ashes.
Finally this is not just an excuse to use an array of bats off season

So Haygrove nets were not too bad.
Lighting could be better, they are bouncy but the ball was swinging and it took a little finger spin and plenty of wrist spin.
Probably not “early season” practice but keeps the rust off.
Got a decent price in the end too.

I play at Kilve in Shrubbery or West Somerset league depending on how convincing I can be that I’m too old and too much of a liability in the field to play 45 overs

@Davehugh - where do u play?

theres a chance ive played against you in the passed. ive played for dunster for many years before moving to worcester. now i just make occasional guest appearances

@t2ylo I'm plying my trade at Burnham on sea but moved in with my missus in Bridgwater so down the road from Haygrove. Good indoor net venue is a regular issue every season and often with plenty of opinions we end with a comprise that doesn't suit anyone.

I’ve just had the email from the indoor school at Somerset which is the best place for sure.
A chance to book a decent slot in the new year for a decent price for the club and that’s always busy.
If you fancy a bit of a net on a Sunday this side of Xmas at Haygrove just drop me a PM and I will let you have times

Always enjoy playing Dunster really great bunch, lovely spot, decent pub afterwards and the best scorers in all the land.

Thanks @t2ylo I'm trying to resist the urge to pick up the willow until the new year. Feel like I over did last season and started to lose interest!

So two weeks in and I’m pretty impressed with the nets at Haygrove School
Yes they are a bit bouncy but they are also true so great to bat in.
The also take turn which is testing too.
Last week there was a WEPL seamer, young leggie & various club offies, the key is finding the length that kisses top of off (isn’t it always)

It’s got me to thinking about testing different bats each week.

This Sunday it’s the Newbery Phantom bought from Uzi towards the end of the season
Weight 2 10
Edge 40mm
Spine 60mm
Cost £110 delivered (from memory)
It’s the made in India Newbery and the Uzi guys picked a belter, I’ve used it once briefly and was mighty impressed

It’s getting 20 mins on Sunday evening & shall post my thoughts
