Kooka Menace MAJOR Repair
« on: October 05, 2017, 12:11:42 PM »

Hey guys,
I received a Kooka menace t20 in to 'refurb' only to find a large amount of delamination, cracks and pieces of wood missing from the edges. Ended up having to remove some more pieces and put them all back together as well as the cracks with a lot of glue, like a jigsaw puzzle. I then taped it loads with packing tape and placed some 5kg weights on the places of the bat that needed pressure applied.
Here are some before pics of the damage

Stay tuned for some after pics

Good job. Just a suggestion though. 5kg isn't much clamping pressure. My advice is to use a Few G clamps and some purpose made clamping blocks to allow you to clamp on the sloping edge of a bat.
I would show you the ones I made (dead simple) but I don't have any photo sharing software since photobucket kicked us off.
I currently have a bat in with a decent sized chunk missing. I have squared off the damaged area on a router table and used a donor bat to splice in a new piece. I undercut the splice with a dovetail cutter to increase surface area and strength,

This specific one is a Kooka menace t20, so the shape is similar to the 2014-15ish bubble and has a great pickup too

Anyone help to get the photo on without a link?
Cheers

I give up.
This is a colleagues bot. A St. Peter neon. Loads of grains and performs very well. I fixed th delamination before I had flicker so no photos. There was a 200x20x5mm chunk missing that was filled with wood filler. So I used a router table to 'square off the missing chunk.
<img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4481/36863328283_94a4e1e52b_b.jpg"

Cut a piece from a donor bat. I made sure it was a few mm larger so that the clamps would put pressure on the repair later.

A block I use to allow me to clamp the face of a bat are shown on the left. I use an old grip to ensure there's no slippage and prevent any dig marks in the back of the bat.

I will take it out of the clamps tomorrow, sorry for the photos, I'm a bit of a Luddite Andy cannot work an IPad very well.

Guru James, A St Peter?!
Are the stickers similar to those in the days of Tony Greig, Barry Richards et al?

I'm looking forward to pics of the whole bat when it is unclamped, tomorrow.

No they are different. It came to me with no front sticker, only the back. Unfortunately I had another one of his St. Peter's with all stickers intact in for a refurb last week but I've returned it to him. I did some research on here as I thought St. Peter stopped ages ago. I found out  someone in credition was selling/making them (2009 ish). This ties in as my colleague plays in Devon.
I will include the back sticker photo tomorrow.
