Pretty sure he won't be joining Surrey. The DiVo is happy with the seam options apparently and keen to give more chances to the younger batsmen which is why we didn't bid for Northeast.

So realistically, the counties for Morkel are:

Derby - Not enough money
Durham - Not enough money
Essex - Maybe, but a real outside chance
Glamorgan - Maybe, again. Div 2 hampering them a touch though possibly?
Gloucester - Nope
Hampshire - Not enough money left after all their recent signings, who must be on decent money!
Kent - If it weren't for all the rumours, I'd have said no, but looks like a strong possibility.
Lancashire - Possibly, given they won't see too much of Jimmy & Jarvis has left.
Leicestershire - No chance
Middlesex - Pace bowling stocks are already strong enough
Northants - Nope
Notts - As per Middlesex
Somerset - Possibly, could see them having a go.
Sussex - Bowling stocks strong enough already I would say (Archer, Whittingham, Garton, Jordan)
Surrey - Maybe, although as per above DiVu is pretty happy with his lot at the moment. Not unlike Surrey to throw some cash around though, is it?

Warks - Possibly, I'd say they need a bit of strengthening in the seam department and this would work perfectly!
Worcs - Nope
Yorkshire - Can't see it, they seem a bit more against Kolpak (other than Deon Kruis!)

So, looks to be one of: Essex, Glamorgan, Kent, Lancs, Somerset, Surrey or Warks. I'd probably say Lancs or Warks would be favourites should it come to it.....

Orrrr..... He's so good, I reckon one of the Aussie States might sign him as an overseas? His Aussie wife would probably he happiest in Aus and given his relative youth, could well help one of the States massively!

Obviously the talent just isn�t there so teams have to buy it in. When is the last time we produced a class bowler like morkel here ? (Aka not a white ball bowler)

There is precedent with Johann Botha after all. I wonder if we'll see one season over here, one there and then review whether he wants to play a full calender year. In terms of options, this is mostly about who has money in their wage bill at this stage of the pre-season. The only place he might conceiveably go on the cheap is Kent, because Allan Donald brings the Yarpie connection.

So, one of the test grounds? Warwickshire were certainly interested last year, and Lancashire will sign any available foreigner on principle. I also wonder if Notts might go for him - again, they have always been ruthlessly acquisitive.

Im not sure our bowling attack is good enough to not go for him.

A lot will depend on Meakers fitness and the Currans England selections. Take those three out the equation and we look very light. Theres a lot more talent coming through with the bat than there is the ball.

What have Surrey got? Tom Curran, Sam Curran, Meaker, Dernbach, Pillans, Dunn, McKerr plus Clarke and Marsh as all rounders? Its a decent squad of seamers (9) but possibly a bit light on quality - a county with less money and less of a buy success mentality might say, nah, we're fine thanks but I can see Surrey throwing the chequebook at it.

Its a double edged sword that one Adie. You think the talent is not there, so you buy a foreign player in, which stops your talented youngsters developing, which means you have none when you next need one, so you buy another foreigner in...

To give one example of how young players can surprise you, it took England nicking half our squad and the other half being injured for Yorkshire to give Ben Coad a run in the ones last summer - and look what he managed! There is always abit of an argument that you can buy in experience and learning - and if it were just the odd body then I'd live with that - but it worries me when sides have more or less half their first XI bought in in this way.

Too many unknown quantities in that list. I.e We dont know how fit Meaker and Dunn will be, how available the Currans will be. How many games Clarke can realistically play given his age. Then you are relying on Dernbach, Marsh and some inexperienced bowlers.
I think he could really have the Sanga affect on our younger bowlers as well as being the top drawer consistent wicket taker we've lacked for a good number of years.

Although I doubt he'll be coming here I'm not sure if we're that short on money for wages. Compared to last season we've had Northeast in who will be on a fair bit but we've taken Carberry, Bailey and Will Smith off the wages who were all very experienced and must've been on a decent amount. Then there's Topley's limited overs only contract which will presumably be slightly less and I doubt we're re-signing Afridi for t20s this year.
