Shadow Batting
« on: October 18, 2017, 10:21:52 AM »

So I find I am shadow batting a lot more around the house and as such have decided to put myself up the order. My problem is twofold- do I get myself a new ‘shadow-bat’ which is easier to pick up or do I simply cover my existing bat in bubblewrap?

Secondly, should I keep a pair of pads handy for the full experience?

In addition to this there is the question of technique- when flicking one off my legs I like to make clicking noise with my tongue, whereas cover drives on the off require an exhalation and a shouting of the word “bosh”! I’m not sure this is very professional.
Does anyone else have these challenges?

For a more complete experience, I would ask the mrs to shadow bowl to you....

I also add in a call to the shadow batsman at the other end...'waiting'......'one there'....

Find some video of sledging on YouTube and stick it on the wireless for full realism!

Also identify some cheers when you really connect with one through midwicket

God knows what you will be like if a mirror is involved too.

Do you hold the pose after each shot?

I shadow bat in front of a mirror. As I'm too busy watching myself, I've hit myself on the toe and knee countless times and they leave bruises which can only mean I'm trying to hit the shadow ball out of my house Chris Lynn style haha

Well, we haven't go onto the thorny subject of 'naked shadow batting' yet!  Nothing as liberating (and indeed as 'jiggly') as essaying a reverse sweep shot wearing nothing but a pair of batting inners and a smile.

I can only assume during such an liberating innings you take a “middle stump” guard. I do not want to consider how you mark it though
