The world has gone Mad
« on: October 19, 2017, 09:43:11 PM »

Just seen next seasons GN Legend on sale at PDC for the bargain price of £900 bit of a steal with the 10% discount from the RRP of £1000.
Didn’t you used to be able to get a custom made bat along side the England test captain for that price even that’s mental money to a bloke who must have spent over £5000 on bats over the years

900 quids for a bat that is on sale. I could pay my one month mortgage payment with that kind of money. Complete madness!

Add to it the the fact that the few legends I have seen are nothing extra ordinary in terms of performance. One I saw had 8 grains with a blemish as well, can't imagine how that could be termed as top 1% of the willow.

If you stretch the ceiling price of the top bats you might not sell many but if it allows you to push up the prices in the mid and low mass market range even by a small amount (just because it doesn’t  look as bad still compared to the very best) then you can suddenly make a lot more money.
It’s a ridiculous price for a bat, but I very much doubt it has anything to do with actual costs and way more to do with a very crude and manipulative product pricing strategy.

Shame on GN!

Can't blame GN if that's what people are prepared to pay.

I wonder how high it will go before it reaches peak gouging?

Prices will continue to rise until people vote with their feet

my worry is that smaller boutique brands will now raise prices as if big boys are getting it they want some of the pie

The first cricket box was used in 1874.  The first cricket helmet was introduced in 1974. So, it took 100 years for men to twig that their brains were also worth protecting.

Is that the time for the boutique brands to really make their mark by not charging over the odds and gaining more customers!? People aren't going to want to pay fortunes for bats and if they do I say more fool them! I'll stick to my butterfly blades they've never let me down yet
