VR Cricket?
« on: January 16, 2018, 10:56:21 PM »

I'm sure we can all argue stick cricket helps us keep our eye in but has anyone used anything with VR cricket.

I'd happily clear out a spare room for this if it was cheap and decent enough.

It looks an excellent coaching aid but for me actually feeling the ball off of the bat is where the satisfaction comes.

That’s exactly what I thought as I read it

Me too but with a bit of practice it should happen more often and go for longer. Kind of like a Libido Wax.

That's what nets is for. I can't do more than about 10mins. You don't get the break between balls like you do when in the middle. Ball after ball in quick succession buggers me right up.

When a mate and myself have a chance to go in the nets, I bowl at him for over an hour, sometimes nearly a hour and a half. I'm a leggie and he's a seamer. I know he prefers a quicker ball so I mix it up a bit. Then he bowls, again mixing it up except I work on putting away the slower ball. No real chat, it's a case of 'lets see how you handle the next one', but that's not the point.

My point is, you're out 'there', in the VR middle, wherever that may be. A local club where you're just slogging everything towards cow or to the MCG on the final day and lets say you have to score runs off Starc to bring home the ashes. Or even just practicing keeping the ball low, avoiding the fielders and 'mis-hitting' that four for a six. With the VR you can see the trajectory of the ball you've just hit. Think of all the settings you can tinker with, nevermind ever wondered what it is like to face an over from Warne or Brett Lee. Could you pick the flipper or pull the bouncer? Almost limitless options.

Yes you're missing the feel of middling one but just imagine time spent in VR could mean that in that 10 mins you middle a few more. I guess I see VR not taking anything away but adding something extra.
