Standards of different leagues

I've played in a few leagues and find the standards have varied. Just my thoughts, the Hertfordshire and Thames Valley leagues, I would say are very similar standards when comparing divisions. I would put the Chilterns league below these two. Would be interesting to hear other people's comments

worst to best (obviously from my own experience and view point only)

Lower Northants divisions
Worcestershire top divs
Gloucestershire top divs
WEPL

Big gap

Worst to best - from my view and over a large number of years I would add and the standards do go up and down in the league's.

Durham Cricket League - Div 1
Four Counties League - Div 1
Thames Valley League - various Divs

North East Premier League - Prem
Home Counties Premier League - Div 1

Massive jump into the standard of the 2 ECB Premier Leagues with probably the HCPL being marginally stronger as a whole league

I only have a small experience level to give my experience from but the Cambs / Hunts premier league (tucker 1)wasn’t as strong as I was expecting. Batting is good but the bowling wasn’t much a step up from Tucker 2/Hunt Div 1.

However neither of these are as strong as the equivalent Herts leagues.

The better sides in the Chilterns are roughly div 2/3 TVL standard but the rest are pretty average at best. Only a couple of decent clubs left in Chilterns now following a handful moving across to TVL for 2018.

Standard wise for me, best to worst:

Kent League (div 1)
TVL (divs 3 and 4)
Cherwell (div 4)
Chilterns (Prem)
Berkshire League (Prem)

It is the fullers league, in between the Surrey Championship and the village league.
Standard will be mixed some good players and some weaker ones.

@Buzz  - what's the name of that league that you play twice a year in and score 388* each time - it's the surrey Jazzhat Village Duffers division 4 or something isn't it?  :D

Surrey jazz hat league is about right.
I play for the just relegated Headley Old Freemans in the Surrey Downs league when I get let out.
It is mixed in quality. There are some players who should be playing a higher standard of cricket but can't be bothered to and some players I would rather just didn't bother!
Not quite the same as when I played in Div one of the Surrey Championship (and averaged about 8 )
I also play some old man's cricket for the XL club, which I recommend if you are over 35.

Our Twos and Threes play in the Fullers, as does @FattusCattus.
Our Threes are a mix of colts, 'veterans' and assorted sundry folk, so the standard is pretty low. We're a weak Threes side, to be fair. There are sides in the division that are more competent!
Our Twos are of a better standard. Players who know what they're doing. (Most of the time.) But centuries, genuine legspin and rapid pace at this level are rare birds.
Our Ones are in the Surrey Champ, and it's a pretty big step up. The top divisions (First and Premier) are of a very good standard. Feeders for Surrey & Middx.

How very dare you!!!!  Your 3's and I play in the vastly superior Surrey Championship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  A much stronger standard than the Fullers, but still a little mixed.

I've played 2s and 3s over seasons gone by at the bottom of the Surrey Championship and top of the Fullers and I'd say there's not such a jump in standard, there's a bit of an overlap between the worst sides in the championship and the best in the fullers.  Where a big gulf seems to have appeared is between the best and worst sides in the bottom Surrey Championship 3rd XI regional divisions, I'm sure @FattusCattus will agree the worst sides are truly awful.

I played a few seasons in the Surrey Downs League and this is so true.  Some lovely grounds, and a few players who were miles too good for that level of cricket, I was so jealous of their ability, but just wanted a nice easy Saturday afternoon.

Ah yes, they do indeed now play Surrey Champ Brucey.
But they'll always be Fuller's to me.  :D

Okay, tried to compile an accurate list, but you'll appreciate that there are 28 seasons of league cricket here (and I'm still only 40). 

I've tried to add timeframes to these, because I think there have been ebbs and flows of standard over the years - a noticeable upshift around 2007-11 as the Ashes generation came of age, and a drop off in the last couple of seasons.  The eagle eyed may notice that I have rated a D3 stronger than a D2 - I stand by that. I've included one in caps that I spent a year umpiring in as I think it is indicative, as well as one that I have spent enough time watching to judge, again in caps. Apologies if I offend anyone:

North Yorkshire South Durham League D1 (mid-90s)
YORKSHIRE PREM (1997)
Northern Premier D1 (1995-6)
York Senior League D1 (early 90s)
TVCL Division 1 (2000)
HOME COUNTIES PREMIER LEAGUE (since 2004)
TVCL Division 3 (2007-11)
TVCL Division 2 (2001-2 and 2005-6)
Nidderdale League (1998-9)
TVCL Division 3 (2003-4 and 12-13)
TVCL Division 4 and occasionally lower over the years...
