Ive read Willey quoted as saying he is about to give up on red ball cricket so he's next I reckon

Not sure really how to feel about Rashid, old style view maybe play for Yorkshire as he will get in their side in championship cricket, but he has no chance of playing tests. England don't rate him, or do rate him and don't like his attitude.

But more and more players will only play white ball I think.

At present if you are contracted to England, those contracts are separated and paid accordingly between one day and test, or those few that play both.....

That is correct right, do someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Regardless of there ability�s to play international cricket it will reduce the quality of first class game. This is a bad thing

This will become a trend, and lets not pretend it's about anything other than players optimizing income.

I was proved right, from the beginning, about Rashid not playing many Tests.

I suppose if you look at bad case senario, more one day international class players don't play first class and that opens up more gaps for Kolpack players(if they are still called that) to come over and play...

Or it means more opportunities for Academy players to come thru.

Those that watch 4 day cricket would feel short changed not seeing the likes of Hales or Butler or Roy maybe.

I didn't realise Morgan had not played a first class game for Middlesex since 2015.

He's not good enough to get into their FC team as Middlesex, they had plenty of opportunity to play him last.

The decision makes sense for me - he�s been overlooked for both Dawson and Crane in recent times when he�s arguably a better candidate for the slot than both

Consistent performer for England in the one day arena so why not capitalise whilst he can!

With all due respect to Adil Rashid's decision, I think the 'play red ball cricket only to get selected in test team' attitude is really poor. Its good to have the ambition to get selected in the test team but county cricket is not just a glorified selection session.

County cricket is serious business. All clubs fight hard to win their respective divisions. If one cannot take it seriously as well then I guess the counties are better off without such players.

Totally understand Rashid�s viewpoint here. That conract gives him flexibility to play and earn. Will see this happening regularly in quite a few countries. WI players started it

At the end of the day he's got to look after himself and his future, will be free to get around the world and earn the big bucks in white ball cricket. He doesn't owe anything to England, they've wasted enough of his time trailing him around the world carrying drinks and picking what may seem like weaker players instead of him to play. His bowling hasn't been quite up to scratch at times for Yorkshire anyway, at times being more effective with the bat. Interestingly I have a few friends in common with him, few guys play at my club who are pals with him and regularly net with him, so if I get chance will try have a chat to him about this whole situation

I agree its their livelihood and not just a hobby like most of us here, but players moving away would have a negative effect on the quality of county cricket which would in turn have a knock on effect on the quality of players playing at the highest level. This is why I personally like the IPL. Local talent earns a lot of money to play for 2 months, gets international exposure and also still continues to play at the county level. If it wasnt for IPL, I am sure a lot of good players who were in demand in T20 cricket would stop playing for their county sides.
