Rashid to quit red ball cricket
« on: February 15, 2018, 12:29:39 PM »

Reports coming out that Rashid will be negotiating a white ball only contract going forward with Yorkshire.

I think it's a shame if true. Personally I'd like to have seen him play more test cricket.

Interesting read, especially as they say other players are considering the same deal.

Don't really blame him considering he only gets selected when we're in the subcontinent...

Considering the chances some players have had over the years I think he has been really hard done by in relation to test cricket. In my opinion should have played in the Ashes and I’m sure the selection of Crane ahead of him has had big impact on his decision.

I think one of the other players will be David Willey

Anyone got any other guesses?

I would say Chris Jordan is probably one of the players they refer too

Mark Wood may eventually go that way as well. His body isn't up to FC or Test cricket, clearly

It is disappointing but if Rashid doesn't think he has a chance of being selected for the Test side then why play red ball for Yorkshire? sorry all the Yorkshire lads on here but if he isn't tied up playing for Yorkshire in April and May he becomes a fair more attractive player for IPL and PSL teams.

I think it will depend how much he plays for Yorkshire this season now he's fit and after Sidebottom's retirement. Think a LAO is always a good option.

i think a lot depends on the following -

1. Does the player feel he has a chance of getting in the Test side
2. Does/Is the player earning the big bucks in the various T20 leagues around the world
3. General ambition of the player
4. Age of the player

For example Butler is already earning big bucks in the IPL etc... and knows he probably isn't getting in the Test side so is the ideal candidate for a White Ball only contract. Whereas Hales possibly has a chance of a batting slot if he plunders rules for Notts and again didn't get picked up in the IPL etc...

Players are clearly not feeling secure and it is ECB's responsibility.

Don't see that many going for this, where are the advantages if you're an England player? Can go and play the IPL anyway, CPL clashes with domestic games, what else are you gonna do? Most of the blast clashes with England games anyway so he won't even play much of that. Presumably Rashid has just decided he can't be arsed with 4 dayers which I suppose he's entitled to. Suspect I'd just wave him off to another county if I was Yorkshire given he'll play about 4 games a season, why bother paying.

No reason why the following wouldn’t follow suit as they are simply not red ball quality players

Jordan
Hales
Roy
Morgan
Buttler
Plunkett (aging)
Wood (body broken so why bother)
Willey (simply not good enough)
Duckett

List could go on
