Isn't the thing that a lot of them are trying to qualify as Kolpaks now before Brexit (possibly) changes it all?

Smit is not a Kolpak.

Best and Rampaul were within two years when they started Kolpakking.

I can bore for Britain on the technicalities of immigration legislation...

Any ideas how Smit qualified? Sky seemed to be referring to it as a kolpak signing in their article when he signed which is what made me assume he was. Johann Myburgh is another that came to mind but I assume he has a Dutch passport which presumably changes up the rules?

Fair enough on Rampaul but Tino Best signed for Hampshire on April 2016 having last represented the WI in January 2014?

It could be an EEA passport, or a wife with the same; he would not qualify for a work permit, ergo he must have permission to seek employment without restriction.

That was my understanding, although no one knows what will happen after Brexit the Kolpak ruling was an EU ruling. I suspect at some point it will stop. I also think 3 year contracts on good money (especially considering the pound to rand exchange rate) was a huge factor

Looks like AB de Villiers will retire from Test cricket after this series but will stay around until the 2019 World Cup

Amla and faf could earn good money over here and on the 2020 train. Rabada should start to wonder if it’s worth him busting his body or join them

Real shame to see him retire from test match cricket, he was the difference in the recent test series

Amla, Du Plessis, Philander, Elgar and of course ABD are all toward the end of careers and may well be tempted.

Has AB made an official announcement about his Test future?

AB only confirmed his availability for the India and Australia Test series.
