New scouting approach for tests, odi’s and t20i’s

Just saw this on Twitter. Hopefully brings an end to the odd situation where people deeply involved in certain counties can influence selection

Good call from the Fred Boycott twitter account regarding umpires being consulted on players selections.... after all they get to see all the action at close quarters and many were international if not County cricketers themselves.

I like this, I was never a fan of having county coaches/directors of cricket being selectors. Their own agenda would too often get in the way.

Getting the opinion of umpires is an option, although I'd prefer asking the county captains their opinion as part of the process (this will most likely happen informally).

No idea who could come in for either the National Selector or Independent England Selector position - they don't necessarily have to know the county game inside out as the new scouts can handle that. Even though Newell and Fraser can apply I don't see them giving up their county roles for the jobs.

All of the candidates I can think of have media contracts that they probably won't give up (Michael Vaughan would be on my shortlist for example).

System at the moment is very odd, can't see how a director of cricket at a county can be a selector.

Can't be truly neutral and must mostly see his own side play so doesn't get round the grounds enough. Also which coach is going to speak candidly to them.

Delighted that the ECB is moving on from Whittaker. Ghastly.

I think Peter Moores should be involved in the selection process personally. Good with data and a good judge of a player.

Peter Moores seem to recall England were poor when he was in charge
But don't take my opinion ask KP what his thoughts are.

Peter Moores is a good shout to be involved - cracking coach

don't think we are missing any players cause of the current system. just makes it appear more balanced

a good move but not ground breaking

Moores didn't work as an England coach, but as a player picker he was excellent.
Swann, Sidebottom and others from his first stint, moeen from his second and others.

On the BBC website it says they'll have a 12 "discipline-specific scouts". I think that's very good as it allows a wide ranging look at the whole county game and players.

Giles staying Warwickshire and won't become national selector. It's also good that if Newell and Fraser become selectors again that they will have to step down from their counties. I didn't really like selectors being directors of cricket at county team's.

Peter Moores or James Taylor will get the gig.

It will be a real job for the boys option.

Jobs for the boys. Doesn’t matter who gets it, if they are already involved in the circuit they’ll be biased and heavily influenced

ive seen on twitter ed smith has got the job? not sure if this is true or not and no announcement from the ECB as yet.

apparently mick newell is considering whether he wishes to give up his notts role or not before taking up the last selectors role

The Times article is suggesting it will be a dream team of sacked hacks.
Smith (sacked from ESPN for plagiarism)
Selvey (Sacked from the guardian)
Pringle (sacked from the telegraph).

Grim reading.
On the upside Pringle and Selvey at least watch county cricket.

First order of the meeting, who got the best redundancy package?!
