Got a teammates' bat at mine atm to put a scuff on it for them, decent enough stick. Giving it a wave about and a little tap up I think this isn't half bad, picks up a bit light but I like the shape. Pop it on the scales to see what it is and well... The pictures should speak for themselves:

Looks alright for a low grade bat, nice shape and minimal concaving

Pretty sizable edges, spine is about 63mm measuring as best I can

On the scales she goes...

Madness! Imagine the monster this cleft could have made at 2lb11...

Is that a problem with mass market brands? Bats, particularly lower grade, are shaped and pressed as a 'one size fits all' without much attention paid to those clefts that are 'special' in ways other than their appearance.

I always thought I liked light bats, as I am painfully weak, I have never weighed a bat or specified a weight when buying one I just pick it up and wave it around. I was swinging a couple of bats around at home the other day, one feels super light and the other feels perfect for me. I assumed the super light was 2.6 and the other 2.7/2.8 I put them on the scales and the light one was 2.8 the other perfect weight on 2.9

Seems weight, like age, is just a number!

Is that not measuring more like 54cm? Still nice for The weight regardless. I did have a heavy wknd tho so could be seeing that wrong!

I like the look of some of the Kooks in the lower grades, there seems to be some nice lookers for grade 2/3s. The Surge is a lovely profile too.

Angle of the photo bud, I did put more effort into getting an accurate read of the spine than that! As you can tell from the wider shot, the spine is definitely more than 16/17mm bigger than the edge! 54cm would be enooormous mind

@play-yourself-in 2.8/2.9 is definitely light!

Think that's probably a good point, a brand like Kook has more interest in turning the bats out cheap and quick than it does in searching out those special clefts. Not the worst thing in the world for the savvy consumer though as you can seek out super light sticks like this or pick up a bargain, especially with the new laws meaning this cleft couldn't be used to make a mega size bat.

@edge does it have an A stamp on the shoulder?

Just done a refurb on a mates Aussie Kook. 40mm edge, 62mm spine with new stickers scuff and grip it's at 2.6lbs 😱.

Mark - used number 2 bat at nets for a couple of bags of balls!
Everyone that picks it up and waves it around think it weighs 2'10-2'12! Nobody has thought it weighed any more and most say around 2'10/2'11.
I put it on the scales and 2'14.5

There are bats out there then genuinely feel lighter than they are and it's nice to find them!

How much value you get for your shots with these light bats? If you are playing on lighting fast outfields, sure they will be fine. Anywhere else, duds!

Not true for me. I used a 2.6lb SS Turbo for many years.
Timing can make up for the benefit of weight/mass, also I found I generated a much faster bat speed.
These days I use a wide range of bat weights and don't find much difference between them.

I�ve got a couple more bats finished now, not quite as unique as that one, but hopefully the pick up/balance are as good

And I will figure out,how to upload pics and start a thread with my batmaking efforts

Ha ha, 54cm would be some chunk of willow.....as I said, heavy weekend!

You must be a very good timer of the ball. I can never get any value with light bats. Maybe, I didn't use good light weight bats.

I wonder what's the weight of Rohit Sharma's bats? He is probably the best timer of ball of his generation.
