Dug this out the shed today, I’m hoping I can make it a bit smaller, so I’ve taken measurements and I’ll order some box section to make a framework

I’m gonna simplify it as much as I can,, hand feed the cleft and maybe a screw feed for the roller, then I can fit it in the shed

Outstanding as always. Love the ingenuity of the press. Ive also seen a normal jack being used upside down to push the roller down.

Hmm the press,,,sat there today, and thought sod it, I’m gonna fabricate one instead of adapting various bits .
The simplest I’ve seen is lavers, so I’ll try and fab something like that.

Thankyou Tush for your kind words

The two clefts from Justin, yeah, when I’ve got chance I’ll crack on with em
I’ve put them to dry in my airer and they’ve lost a fair bit of weight, so I’m waiting for that to settle too, then I’ll begin work on them

Good to see bud, you must have a powerful airing cupboard! The gap in weight between NG and WG is being maintained, which is interesting.

I've also been fascinated to study the growth patterns, from the end grain of the WG wood. You can really see how growth spurts and then halts, through the year. I should post up a photo of this.

@Northern monkey so whats the standard between cleft weight and finished weight of the bat? is about 1 lb lighter or more? I think a while back someone had posted that usually there is a certain amount of weight you can assume comes off to determine roughly what the finished weight would be!!
