Back on with the bat press for an hour whilst the kids are in bed
Managed to source an electric hydraulic log press, so hopefully I can push the cleft through the rollers

The roller frame work is just temporary, but it’s made from ash which is blooming strong stuff
I’ll mock it up, then fab in box section

That press idea looks like it could work well.
Did you make the roller yourself? I was thinking I could make some with my hydraulic copy attachment with various curvatures for the face.

Looking good!  What are you planning for the pressure adjustment?
I realize that it's only a mock up, but it won't last long with a 10m bolt through the roller.  From what I've heard on videos, some companies press to 5500 psi, and that will make short work of anything that is under-engineered.  But I'm sure you already knew that!

Hmmm all questions I’ve pondered for years too
And the psi thing was the initial reason for starting the build

There are various methods to adjust the roller height
I was going to use an electric actuator, I also have various threaded screws from lathes.
But,,, for the minute, packing the cleft UP with foam works

Also bear in mind, this is only for finished bats, and I’m not mass producing
So 8mm, 10mm etc are fine for now, as is the ash framework and shelf bracket reinforcement.

And the roller framework ,(the orange part) and spindle is rated to 3 tonne
It’s off a car pulley

This is built to a zero budget

That’s one option for roller height adjustments

Much!  I like the first option as the shaft looks bigger.  It's a handy bit of steel to have lying around :)

That’s about 15mm if adjustment
