So Sunday’s game is off as Oppo conceded making it 2 weeks in a row our Sunday side haven’t got a game due to concession. Fingers crossed nothing stops our 1st league game going ahead after a free week last week and a concession the week before. Really has been an awful start to our clubs season but fingers crossed it can only get better

First league game today, on a wet and tacky wickets we batted first and stumbled to 101 all out with a top score of 14

I got 1 batting at 11 however for the first time since January a felt comfortable with bat in hand!

Side was a little down at tea but knew with a bit of luck we could get something out of the game,

Having the oppo 7-3 we were right back in it and needed up bowling them out for 48!

After last weeks 🦆, I found myself back in the seconds opening. We are new to the league and the oppo won the seconds league last year. They declared after 37 overs on 140/9. We knocked it off two down. I fell First with us on 90, scored 36. At the start I think they thought we’d be easy pickings but it didn’t turn out that way

Lost by seven runs on Ansty debut. Problem was we bowled 22 wides in the oppositions 172/7, they bowled 7 in our 165/9.
Won toss and bowled first, came on after about 25 overs, picked up a wicket in first over off a googly full toss, caught at cow but otherwise bowled pretty poorly by my standards for 1/24 from 4. Missed a catch off my best mate which would have been his first Ansty wicket (oops) but snagged one off our overseas. Got 10* batting at 9, kept middling it at fielders or miscuing it into gaps. T20 game tomorrow, possibly 2 of we beat Ifield.

Our league season started today with an away trip to Braintree, lovely ground wicket was slow and low but given all the rain and minimal decent weather it played very well and took some spin. We Batted first and started well getting to 30odd without loss then lost 2 wickets quickly to full tosses, couple of more to really bad shots and then a bit of brain fade set in from our lower middle order playing to many across the line shots. To give them credit Oppo bowling was superb with very few bad balls and from the 6 bowlers they used 4 were spinners and all our wickets fell to spin. We managed 126 from 42.1 overs. Personally left stranded on 48* carrying my bat through the innings.

In reply we put together the best bowling and fielding performance I have seen since joining and now in my 3rd season in Suffolk. Our opening bowlers were both hostile and quick and picked up 3 quick wickets for less than 10 runs. Then the partnership for them that ultimately won them the game couple of seasoned players hung around for the next 30odd overs scoring at about 2 an over and took them up to 90 odd before we got our next wicket. We ended up giving them an extra 2 overs and this cost us dear as at the start of the 45th and normal final over they needed 16 to win managed only 9 but with the extra 2 overs needed 7 from 12 balls, 2 inside edges down to fine leg later and game over. Lost by 4 wickets with 8 balls to spare.

Great bowling and fielding from both sides, a little bit of spice and chat ended with hand shakes all round and a down
To the wire finish on a lovely warm cloud free day.
Roll on next week

First game as captain today. Lost the toss and bowled... all out for 57 off 30 overs. Opening bowler picking up 4 wickets for 3 runs. Pie thrower brought on to buy wickets picked up 4 including a catch for me. We then knocked them off for 1 from 10, a nice little 23no with some well atuck blows! Very pleasing day

The first match of the season and given my usual club had 24 players available, I offered to go out on loan which is something I actually like doing.

"Our" skipper won the toss and chose to field first so I sneaked myself down to fine leg for the first over in the hope that I can spend most of the afternoon leaning against the sightscreen and secondly be in pole position to be open from that end. This tactic worked perfectly today and I sent down 10 overs of the finest quality pies this side of Melton Mowbray (10-5-16-2).  The economy rate was aided by bowling to one of my mates who simply didn't want to get out to a fat off-spinner who doesn't turn it and a 12-year-old with a bruised hand. I did eventually get the 12-year-old out (after earlier bowling his dad) but somewhat annoyingly my mate survived who then went on to score 91 not out (out of 145-7 off 45 overs). After an excellent tea, I was scheduled to come in at No.9 but my services were not required and we won with 5 wickets down.

We had a pre season tour to reading Saturday was the most hungover I’ve played cricket so it went dot 6 dot 6 bowled
Sunday made 44 against some decent bowling
First league game of the year yesterday made 92 for my first league 50 ever

Finally got on the field yesterday for our first league game.  Good win at Marlow, made a half century and batted okay.

First game of season after 2 weeks of wet pitches. Went away 1 short, 2 of our team non cricketers but willing to help out. We were all out for 133, I had the slowest 18 of my life, playing a patient anchor role (I'm usually a last 10 over tonker!). Bowled opposition out for 105, after they were looking good at 105-5! 14 wins on the trot now

Huge victory yesterday in the first leave game of the season. We put them in to bat as our pitch generally gets better to bat on through the day.

We had them in big trouble on about 35-4 but a strong 7th wicket partnership helped boost their total to 145-10 in the final over. Yes, it was difficult to score runs!

Opening up I lost my partner with the score in single figures. When I fell 30 overs later the score was 92-2 and we went on to win with one ball to spare. I top scored with 43 from 90 balls - it really was tremendously difficult!!

Gutted to fall short of 50 yet again but if I batted the same way on a better deck I would have got about 75.

1st league game yesterday. Great start winning by 127 runs. We got put in on a very green still very soft wicket (see my post of the wicket earlier in the week) with an outfield so long it would grace a Sunday league football pitch.

I opened and got 55 and was out in the 25th over! We got 218 all out in the 39th over thanks to some late hitting against woeful back up bowlers.

They were never in it thanks to great spells from our opening bowlers (5-17 and 2-13) and we bowled them out for 91.

Great start to the season but I am sure tougher tests to come.

Tense low scoring first game of the season yesterday. The wicket was under water 3 days before so luck to play. The pitch was very slow as a result. Got the opposition 38-8, but a fine 69 from one of their senior players with support from a young lad blocking up an end they made 104. Our opener took 7-37 with 3 caught and bowled. I took a catch and got a wicket with my first ball of the season. Then went in 3 and scored 5 before getting one that skidded through low an was bowled. We lost 3 in an over and found ourselves 36-6. Some good striking by our opening bowler got us to within 16. He was then out to a great catch on the boundary that looked to be going for 6. Our final wicket went shortly after, so 93 all out. A good game on a challenging wicket.
