We scored 204 off 100 balls in our LMS game last night against a team we'd lost to the previous season. They turned up with four players, and having won the toss, we made them field. Their bowlers evidently weren't there, so we had 6 (batting and helping with the fielding) of us on the field while they had just four of them.
We then proceeded to run along at 13+ runs an over for the first ten while their players and bowlers turned up. Our two openers left the field retired on 50 with strike rates around 200, and then in the second half of the innings, we slowed up. This was mainly due to better bowling on their part, to finish on 204 for 2 off 20 overs (100 balls).
They then came into bat and with an inspired opening spell from a leg spinner and myself bowling medium wibble-wobble, we restricted them to about five an over, much to their frustration, as the two openers could swing a bat very effectively. At the end of eight they were well down on the run rate, and in the next two overs we saw a double play, where the non-facing batsman failed to return to their crease and got run out after a catch. The run rate kept the pressure on and wickets fell at regular intervals until the opener came back in after having retired on 50.
With a good eye, he was able to play through the line of the faster bowlers and hit over the top, somewhat damaging their figures, and then was run out. Until the square leg umpire didn't give it (the guy was diving a mile out of his crease). Cue accusations of cheating, and the batsman hitting a further righteen runs off the last 5 balls he faced.
So overall a good win with a strong side!
