shocking day out on saturday, dropped there number 4 who went on to hit 63 when he was in single figures, still livid with nyself about that drop, 3rd slip between me and second, got to it took it right in middle of hand but it went down! concentration went after that and dropped another sitter and fielded awfully!

game on to bowl too 6-0-3-36 got the lad i dropped otu stumped in my second over and took 2 in 2 we fell well short with the bat chasing 230

then last night in a 15 8 ball over retire ta 25 on an astro friendly i laboured to 23 off 11 overs before i was run out.

tbh i was relieved to get out at the point, was hitting the ball really nicely but kept hitting the fielder, when i hit the gap it was mistimed and horrible, good practice for the weekend though

bowling is a little hit and miss this season, looks and feels good when i bowl it but when i float it it sits up nicely so plenty to work on!!

Played my first game for my new club this Saturday for Bournemouth CC against Ferndown Wayfarers. Skipper won the toss and decided to bowl on a hot sunny day. I was asked if I was comfortable bowling spin with the new ball. I was a little apprehensive as it was my first game and bowling spin with the new ball can go either ways but decided to give it a go. Started off with a full toss down the leg side which was dispatched to the boundary(great first impression!) but got settled down and bowled decently(I think) with figures of 9-1-32-2 getting both the opening batsmen out. They ended up getting 250+ and we lost the match by 20 odd runs.

There were a lot of Crossbat bats on display at the club. Looks like everyone at Ferndown has one :)! Lovely stickers with minimalist design and good middles.

My best mate from Uni is a Ferndown Wayfarer when he's home from Uni, the guy who owns/runs crossbat is one of the players.

So I didn't do anything useful really last night, but I witnessed something... remarkable.

Opposition opener batted for 18 overs, and scored 7 runs. In a T20. He essentially ran out half of his team too.

I have never, ever been so bored on a cricket field.

Imagine what he would do in a test match! Someone get him into the England XI for the second test!  :D

Had a crap day yesterday, took a day off work to play against a touring side and came away questioning why I bothered.

I got my first duck of 2018, coming in to face 2 balls at the end of the innings having had to pad up incredibly quickly, I missed a straight one to be plumb LBW last ball of the innings.

I then saw the real downside to captaincy, with 2 of our own players almost coming to blows on the pitch over something incredibly trivial (player 1 "you're bowling is sh*t" player 2"say that to my face..." and it escalated from there). Somehow this was my fault! The people guilty of it were 22 and 36 years old for Christ's sake...

Often it’s not who you play against but who you play with that counts. One or two wan@ers make a huge difference

They thought it was hilarious! To an outsider it probably was to be fair, proper handbags stuff.

It was only those of us who have to see said Muppets every week didn't see the funny side

Mixed day for certain.

Call this evening from skipper, I've been dropped to the seconds for the week to get overs and an innings under my belt. Appreciated that I haven't had a decent crack and need to get some rhythm, and that im a far better bat than going in 9/10.

On the plus, had CricX (James Cole) get in touch to say they've found me a club in South Australia, in the city of Port Lincoln. Seems a cracking opportunity so definitely going ahead with that! Certainly improves the day for me.

You'll return a far better cricketer! The improvement I've seen in folks who go abroad to ply their trade for a season is incredible.

Well done on finding a club in Oz. My seasons in Oz were some of the best cricketing and life experiences I have had. Take the opportunity and you will definitely come back a better cricketer. Make sure you put in time to go and see the rest of the country as well!

At the end of last year I went through my back. After treatment the advice from the physio was work on strengthening your muscles. The bowling action is ideal to make the area that failed strong again he said. I asked about my stiff calf and pelvis. He said not to worry and just work on building up the muscles.

I did, slowing building things up but it felt like it was getting worse. The physio wanted to continue treatment but I went for a second opinion. The second guy sent me immediately for a scan. Now that stiff calf has led to a 1cm tear in my achilles.

Nevermind work etc, season over before it starts. Not a happy bunny.

Im hoping to, but Port Lincoln is 280km flight from Adelaide and 660km by road, so may be tricky!

Playing my third match tomorrow following two dismissals for nought first one couldnt see the ball through a new helmet ( now discarded )  second dismissal umpire allowed the to bowler before I was ready
So to change my luck brought a new bat.
