Rained off today
Played against @Simmy on Thursday night though.
We got 135 and they were 13 short, decent game on a rubbish wicket.
Simmy got 52 and they would have won if he’d have stayed in
I managed 40 not out

Another good comfortable win today and played in great spirit. We reduced the game to 35overs a side due to yellow weather warning for rain and thunder storms and played the whole game under blue skies and scorching sun lol.
We batted first and together with my opening partner we put on 104 for first wicket in 19 overs on a lovely home deck albeit against an average attack but it did swing around a lot. He was first to go for 49.
I felt in great touch today and built small partnership with No4 and no5 having lost no3 quickly after opening partner. I fell for 71 in the 28th over caught at deep long off, he didn’t move an inch I don’t think lol.
Out skipper then smacked 27 off 9 balls and along with the other set bat we made 218-5 from our 35.

We then blew away there top order and they were 31-5 after 10 twice our bowlers were on hatricks and finally in 4th game got the first nick behind of the season, can’t remeber having to go that long ever before getting a chance. Next over however the only ball of the game that misbehaved shot along the deck and in trying to take it cleanly had it smash into the end of my finger, game over for me. Hopefully not broken just badly bruised maybe a ligiament or something in my finger but needless to say I’m was willing those pads and gloves off and spent the rest of out innings with my hand wrapped in ice.
We have a few lads who don’t normally bowl some overs and ended up getting the last wicket in the 27th over. Nice early finish just a shame we reduced but in reality didn’t really make a difference. Oppo stayed around for a good few hours and we all had a lovely chat etc which for sat league cricket seems to be rare.
Rest the finger this week and give the T20 midweek a miss to be ready to at least bat next weekend. Think one of the other lads can keep for a week

Last over thriller for us today

Batting first we made 207 all out.
One of our openers made 43 but suffered a knee injury so was unable to field (it looked like he had a 2nd knee cap!)
We had a 17 year old batting at no.5 who made a very good 62, and an 18 year old at no.6 who fell agonisingly short of his maiden 2nd XI 50, getting c&b for 44.

Other than 36 extras nobody else made double figures, and the general feeling at tea was not batting for our full 45 overs may have hurt us as we were about 20-30 runs short.

In the 2nd innings their openers got off to a flyer, putting on 44 in 8 overs before the first wicket fell.
Our bowlers pegged it back and took regular wickets, with the opposition always keeping round about the required rate. It came down to them needing 9 off the last over with 1 wicket in hand, with our opening bowler on. Dot (9 off 5, we've got this!), 4 (5 off 4, squeaky bum time), wicket - bowled him.

We won by 4 runs.

Great game to be a part of, but not good for the blood pressure. I felt for the opposition coming so close, winning those kind of games is great, but losing them is heartbreaking.

Oh, and I picked up a 4 fer en route to victory, great day all round.

Over to my friendly captaincy tomorrow for a nice away trip and a timed game :)

First game back since I broke my thumb last year. Was a game to forget for the team. Look posted 211-9 from their 50. Their opener was dropped on 5 and then miles out stumped that wasn’t given in the 20’s. Went into to get 94no. I always enjoy watching a good batsman go about his business getting runs but this was certainly not in that bracket. Still, you’ve got to get them! I took 2-30-10 so pretty happy with that for first game back. Should of had 2/3 more with missed stumpings and dropped catches.

Batting we were skittles for 58 from 29overs on a pitch which had started seriously drying in the heat and had balls popping/keeping low. I was left down sh*t creek without a paddle for 15 (from 17 overs & we were 5 down by then 🤣) when run out by my partner. Felt really comfortable at the crease but scoring was really hard.

All in all a crap day for the team but nice to get back out there.

First game with the Ansty Fun XI (2nd team).

Batted first, went in 7 against an off spinner one end and left arm orthodox the other. My innings was short and violent, being .,.,6,4,6,6,1,w with the three sixes all straight and the four in the same place as well. All my runs were from the offie, got stumped first ball from the left armer who speared it in whilst I tracked it and tried to hit the ball to Cuckfield. We ended 161/9 from 40.

We got early wickets, then I bowled in tandem with one of our women's team who plays for Essex ladies. Meg got 1/17 from 9, I got 4/21 from 7. After two overs I had 0/14, so quite a comeback! Also took a one handed catch at mid wicket to dismiss their opener, smacked a full toss over my shoulder so threw a hand up and it stuck, then a simple catch running round from mid wicket to square to finish the game. Almost got wiped out taking the last catch by out opening bowler, and it was suggested it was jug avoidance from me. Bowled the oppo out for 97 so a decent win and 2s now top of the league.

Hate cricket.....from the high of 93 two weeks ago, getting married last Saturday I make my league return yesterday. After losing the toss the oppo make 220 in tricky batting conditions
In reply we make 160....my contribution a first ball duck :-( I am hoping this might refocus me going forward

A poor day. We lost the toss and made to bowl first we bowled them out for 200 and we were bowled out for 140 in reply. A forgettable day for me. Their bowler who was wearing bright yellow trainers bowled a half volley first up which I edged for 4 next ball another half volley the eyes lit up and I missed it to be bowled. I’m with the cord and velvetsky... hate cricket.

Ditto the theme of hating cricket

Caught on a nightmare wicket than spun massive against a very good side and all out for 68, started at 1pm and finished at 3.30, had nothing to do for the rest of the day so watched the threes in a park . Second consecutive duck as well.

This was after the club captain said 'your team needs to start picking up points quickly'. Well we didn't get any yesterday!?

Change of bat now to something els which is totally illogical but often works!  :)

We won.

Got there very ealry(10pm) to cut outfield, it started raining so we just put covers on instead.

Luckily saved the day as it bounce it down and would definitely have been off by time everyone else arrived at 12.

Started late in a reduced game. 36 overs.

Oppo who were top of league, crawled to 108 for 8 of there overs(2 run outs in last over made it seem more, they had no interests before this over to put a score on).

For what should have been a big game, they seemed very defeated, celebrating dropped catches, missed run out chances, edges. Before it all kicked off with 5 to go as they decided to start call one of our fielders a fat ***** as he ran for the ball.

This nearly lead to a fight at tea...... got to love cricket.
They then spent tea talking about how the “rain was coming in” and they’d get there 7 points no worries.

I took 15 of first two overs before I got a good nut that moved away and hit top of off, I ignored my send off.

We moved on to 45 for 1, before our 17 year old opener missed a good slower ball, and oppo resorted to heckling him as he walked off.

I really don’t understand how some clubs want to act on the field?

Anyway we knocked them off with 5 overs left. Should have been done earlier, but as lew needed 20 for his 50 and we need 20 to win, Mick decided to block everything and refuse to get a run.

Was a disappointing day for a top of the table clash, oppo more interested in sledging than winning.
I wanted a competitive game. And it wasn’t like they had a poor side out, was probably there best xi available and our games are usually close.
They just turned up with the wrong attitude for some reason.

We came second, disappointing given they were something like 55-4 off 26 overs... Big lad came in and slogged and they got up to 209, which we couldn't chase, so in the last over 20odd short. 2-20 off my 9 for me, pleased with that given I conceded 12 in the last one! Then sold down the river by my opening partner and run out for 10.

Played on the same strip for the 4th game in a row, thanks to the ground staff not being arsed because it wasn't the first team. Really annoys me when the first team are the only ones looked after. I don't mind playing on a deck the week after, but after 250 odd overs have been bowled on it? Come on...

Huge crater at middle stump at both ends, deep footmarks for the bowlers and some very variable bounce.
they got 150 odd of their 40, I got triggered lbw on 23 after a solid start to a ball that hit me well above the knee roll. We knocked them off 7 down in the end.

Team won yesterday in a low scoring match only had ten players and our opening bowler was missing but needn't have worried our 12 year old seamer  ripped out the opposition  middle order with  4 for 12 off 5 overs
