Joined the XL cricket club. First game a week Thursday. With a full time ground staff, improving weather and the resources of a public school the game should be on.
God love mid-week cricket.

I played against them as a lad. I now play in beautiful places but on mostly uncovered pitches. I look forward to having a bat on a good pitch. Hopefully get some runs too.
A nice lunch and tea are all part and parcel of course.
We used to get a barrel Of beer in for the XL and MCC games. I suppose that’s gone by the wayside.

Sorry that was my first forum net so everyone was new to me. Were you the guy with the Mongoose? Im playing Queens, West Buckland, Kings College, Millfield (Maybe) and Wells. Best bet is to collar Andy Birkett or Winston at Queens.

Yes, I had the mongoose. I don’t work Wednesdays or Thursdays so I can play all games that fall on those days. It’s just whether I can be bothered to travel.

Played first friendly today, we bowled first. Green top, bowled them out for 146, I managed to pick up 1-7 off 5 overs, got a couple of my offies to turn and bounce so was chuffed.
We then chased it 9 down.

Well jealous that people have got a game in already.. our league has voted to put the start back by a week. Seems like quite a few leagues have done the same.

Gutted though as yesterday was a beautiful day and I can guarantee next week will be the same (original start date)... the week after I'm 100% sure it will be as wet as my bathroom floor when the kids have been in the bath.

The other annoying thing is as a new captain of or recently relegated side I had the strongest 11 available that I think I could have picked...  Oh well.

Feeling it Boony the kit is all ready but no where to go so far.

On the plus side a committee meeting has been called for next week, which is three hours of my life I won't get back, but it's something

And I got a text from someone unknown(!) saying there could be a game next weekend

It's been a helluva long winter but things are moving

So we managed to get a game in today. We had a pre-season friendly arranged but had to cancel due to weather but they contacted us this week and asked if we could field a side as with the drier weather back of last week and this forecasted good weekend they were confident they could produce a wicket and safe outfield.

Anyway pitch was superb given the awful wether we have had in East Anglia it wasn’t a raging green top it was slow and a bit tennis ball bounce but overall played well.

Anyway we won the toss and batted, agreed that batters would retire at 50 and all would bowl, opened and got my way to 50 and felt in good nick given the very limited winter and early season nets, used my match bat from last season “ UK made GN ultimate” and don’t know why this hasn’t been in my mind as match bat this year, forgot how good it is so will be going into the next few weeks with this beauty. Anyway we got to 184-9 off 40.
Then I remeber why I love cricket so much, TEA, scones, homemade cake, sausage roll and mini toad in the hole with gravy, stunning spread.
In reply they had a couple of county Jnr players that we managed to get early both due to playing too early on the ball and after that they limped to 87 from 27 overs losing wickets in clumps so a nice win and our team fielded really well taking all but one catch that was quite tough to 2nd slip.
Main thing though was cricket was played and played in the right way with a great oppo so a happy start to my 2018
Season
