1st game of the season amazed we managed to get on to be honest. Horrid pitch though meant 95-7 off 40 was actually really tough to chase. Our lads finished 21 short with yours truly clogging up an end opening and scoring 18 off 34 overs. Feeling it now!!

Finally got underway this weekend.

A stumping and a catch with the gloves across the weekend, but loads keeping low meant a few more byes than i'd like, i felt very rusty, not happy with my performances really, missed a few half chances that I probably should have taken.

Saturday should have been our first league game but that got put back to the end of Sept, so we played what has been our only pre season friendly. I got a duck, played a few safely against a 'spinner' i've always struggled with. Then he plopped a nice leg stump half volley down that I absolutely minced through mid wicket about knee high only to see their skipper pull out a full length dive and snare it one handed.....

Today was the first sunday league game, maximum points win and i got 57*

Two tour games onthe isle of wight. Playing above my ability against some very good players, i was 12 not out batting 3 when the rain came on saturday. Felt good and thought i could have gone on.

Sunday we reversed the order so i didnt bat but i got a nick and a stumping and no byeswhich i feel is a go start considering i was completely ruined from the night nbefore on both occasions.

Looking forward to some league cricket next week.

League games start on the 5th. Off to Andalucia for 4 days of cricket sun and beers on Friday though, hoping it's a bit drier there.

Very enjoyable fitness and fielding session on Saturday before going to heckle my brother and uni team mates.

Spent the first innings chilling in the sun with the uni girls team, then got roped in to field for Firle. Firle lost, but nice to get a run around, no mistakes despite being a couple of pints in- I hadn't expected to field!

We got our season up and running on Saturday with a pre season friendly. We won the toss and chose to bat on what was a grassy but firm wicket. The outfield was very soft the closer to the boundary you went. We came off for rain on the fall of our first wicket so I had a nervous wait while the rain came down and we waited for it to pass. The wicket was at its worse when I took my guard and I struggled to start. Got in to it and eventually found some rythem and hit a few good shots - a number of which I got all of stopping before reaching the boundary due to the soft ground. I was eventually trapped LBW with what turned out to be the only ball to not get above ankle height all day - plum infront no complaints.

I had a good day in the field taking two catches. I even got my annual bowl (those who have seen my bowling at the CBF net sessions will see why this only happens once a year during the April friendlies. However picked up a wicket with a smart stumping from our keeper.

Good game and was great to be back!

Started the season on Sunday with batting first and scoring 209 from our 40 overs on a low pitch. In reply they never really got going and we took wickets regularly and bowled them out for 130ish. So all in all a good start to the season.

My season is likely over before it's even got started, unfortunately.

Managed to break my fibula and tear both the fibula and tibia off my ankle playing rugby on the 14th. I have had the required surgery since but I'm going to be out for a minimum of 6 weeks to recover and then likely another 6 weeks of physio to get the leg back in condition and get used to the screws!

Looks like I'm going to be resident scorer for the time being, which is sad as I was really looking forward to this season, was hoping to kick on from last year.

Played my first game today. Forty Club against St John's in an afternoon game.
If was pretty cold, we got 233 which was about par. They got them with two overs to go after we had opened the game up to try and win. Sadly we couldn't shut the barn door! We also dropped 6 catches. But it was cold blustery and wet and frankly I wanted to avoid the ball!!
Still I got some time at the crease and it was fun.

Playing my first game this Saturday and last net session this evening. Made the stupid mistake of lending my match bat, GN f18, to a mate who's put a split all the way through the toe! 😤

That wasn't Sussex Uni by any chance was it? seem to see their twitter posted about playing a team that might have been Firle (it started with an F anyway!)

Yeah it was Sussex Uni. Prior to dropping out I was down to play whenever possible.
