Your 2018 Season
« on: March 19, 2018, 07:59:11 AM »

So with 2 weeks until our first Pre-Season game and 4 weeks until our season is due to start our ground is under an inch of snow still and it’s -2 this morning.
So when do you reckon you will play your 1st game?? Our grounds man hasn’t been able to get into the square for any length of time since last week in Feb due to snow and then rain and now snow again

I reckon 1st game will be in May this season can’t see much cricket happening in April here in Suffolk.

Same as you mate, Melford is still covered in snow. Our groundsman hasn't been able to fully cut the square or roll it, the outfield is recovering from the kids football, the driveway is so rutted it's like being in Lagos and we haven't yet been able to get rid of a large mole family who are encroaching fast. Nightmare. Work party next Saturday, weather permitting!

Similar up in Yorkshire. We have a local friendly scheduled for 11th April which should be the first game. Had a bit of a collective effort last Saturday (10th) to get the work on the clubhouse finished and sort the pitch out a little. We did a great job until it bloody snowed again!

Luckily we have the leisure of indoor nets at the local secondary school so we're not completely marooned from cricket!

1st league game 21 April. It's the only fixture that weekend. We finish 15 September, again it's the only league fixture that weekend. Consequently we have 3 consecutive weeks off in June just when it's nice and sunny and dry.
It's our first season in the top division and I can't help thinking that things are stacking against us. I feel the league should have seen our 3 weeks off in the middle of the summer and reshuffled the fixtures.

Our 1st game is scheduled at 14th April, reckon its a big ask to have it ready for then tbh. League doesnt start until the 1st weekend of May but our ground holds water really badly so if things dont start warming up pretty sharpish that could be a struggle

First friendly planned for 21st April.  A couple of weeks ago there were groans about us having nothing ont eh 14th.  Right now, I'd say even with a well draining ground we'll belucky to play before the start of the league season.

We have our 1st pre-season friendlies weekend 14th/15th April - luckily both Away as out ground under a lot of snow and no work at all done on it since it was 'put to bed' at the end of the season. we have our 'ground day' early April so crossed fingers for some good weather!

League starts with a home game on 28th April against Jon from @Red Ink Cricket team  ;)

My real worry is if the inconsistent weather continues, because then you get no rhythm batting, the league starts to become a complete lottery depending on when and who gets rained off etc...

April 2nd looking like a no go currently. So we shall be attempting to start the league on what will no doubt will be a juicy green top on 14th April... looking forward to catching balls at 2nd slip for fun, less so walking out to bat!

Fortunately we aren't in Melford until July  :D

Same mate our 1st league game is April 14th against the side that came up with us last season and along with ours was the strongest bowling line up, 2 tall quiche which given the 100% green top we will get if lucky enough to get a game will be a real handful as an opening bat, benefit is that all pitches will be slow unless we get some heat from somewhere early April

Supposed to have a friendly on April 7th, Think I could play a full rugby season instead of falling 3 games short.

As expected the 2nd April has now been killed  :(
Roller has wet to be returned to us, ground too wet for delivery. So no rolling has/ can occur yet.
:o Praying that we aren't playing on green seamers all year

Been picked for a game on 24th April. Only a month away.
Not sure about some of you playing in 2 weeks.
The grounds might still be frozen!
