Absolutely furious about yesterday.

200 mile round trip, Bucks to Brighton to Chichester and back. Batted 10, didn't get in, despite several players who aren't as quick scoring as me being moved up the order when we chased quick runs... Didn't get a bowl until the 33rd over of 47, wicket first ball. Taken off after 3 inexpensive overs to allow the quicks to try to blast away the tail on a pitch that literally offered no assistance to seamers. Took probably my best catch yet this season at point, low to my left in the gloom, but still, I didn't travel so far for 3 overs and one catch. This is my third "thanks for coming" of the season already after being promised so much more over the winter.

I think next week will be my last at Ansty, as the travel is silly for not getting a game, and utterly pointless to play 2s as the standard is pretty poor. At the very least I will be having words with the captain to make my displeasure clear.

My plan now is to join Amersham CC, which is local, a great ground and a good group of blokes.

Maybe you need to find a level at which you can enjoy your cricket and play a bigger role in the team, rather than striving for a higher level and struggling to make an impact?

I joined having been told I would be bowling plenty of overs, bowling the side back to the premier division and getting a go with the bat. Maybe I was naive, but all through the winter net sessions I was told I would be leading the attack.

I am good enough to be bowling my overs in the side, and batting 7, but haven't had a proper go with bat or ball. Fielding has always been my weakest string, but right now it is the only one im getting to use.

I think your biggest challenge where ever you go and play is you need a captain who understands leg spin. It is hard to captain a legspinner, to understand field settings, that you will bowl bad balls etc... It is all well and good telling you everything during nets but until you are on the park it means nothing. You need to find a skipper who is prepared to throw you the ball.

Hope that makes sense.

You've hit the nail on the head. Part of what makes Amersham the best option is that my old head of year, who was first eleven coach at school and im still in touch with, plays there and knows what I can do, and I know a few lads from my school days.

Tough first captaincy experience today!

Won the toss and chose to bat got to 74-2 and I hit a fluent 22 two shots stick in my mind a cover drive along the ground a mind a clip over mid in for 4

Ended up 109 all out and losing by 6 wickets

Seems tk estate bowlers ok and gave everyone a game but most importantly really enjoyed it!

First week of my two week ban so i decided to go and score for my old Sunday side (effectively a 3rd XI for the club's Saturday team) and witnessed a really good game.

It was reduced to 35 overs (which is allowed in the Development league) and we batted first on an astro wicket. Our 18 year-old opener who's been in an out of the first team offered to play and scored a really classy ton in 74 balls. He never over hit the ball, scored a few boundaries, but mostly just rotated the strike and hit the odd 2, barely facing a dot ball. Ended up 219-4 off 35, but we lost by 3 wickets with 2 balls remaining. Positives were that both our 12 year-olds got a bowl (and ended with respectable figures) and one of them took an absolute blinder at cover-point that someone his age should never be getting anywhere near!

From a personal perspective, that's the first game i've ever scored, having only taken the game up a few years ago. Was only a single run out on both innings (forgetting to add a single to a batsman both times) so not a bad effort on my first go!

Got some interesting midweek cup games on Wednesday at our club.

1sts play a local derby which often gets a bit heated
2nds (lots of juniors and very casual players) have got a team who play 8 leagues above them!! Seen their team sheet in advance and its full strength prem div 1 including overseas! Could be interesting/dangerous.

Great stuff @DorsetDan well played. Sometimes Cricket is a tough mistress but when it goes well there is no better feeling. Build on this and go to bigger and better things.

Top man @DorsetDan ! Confidence is a big part of batting, bookmark that feeling and here's hoping you can find plenty more runs there 👍

27 at the weekend and 69 in a T20 last night. Normally when I hang about for 5 overs or so a bit of touch seems to come back, but both of these knocks have been a real battle, no idea why  :(

Took 1-10 off 2 overs and felt in okay rhythm after asking to come off last Saturday having no idea where the ball was going.
I then got run out without facing in the last over (set batsman was back on strike and hit a 6 to win the game, so I suppose the sacrifice was worth it).

Team won and I felt like a bowler again, but I can't saw I appreciated my average taking a battering at the time...  :(
