middx relegation battle update

won again Saturday, and I was run out for he forth time this season !

still...its been a better one than last year, 2 games left we are playing first and third teams vying for promotion

with luck we will survive after hauling ourselves off the bottom of the table and taking some right hammerings

offered to drop down to the threes for next year to play with a couple of mates but skipper declined saying you cant buy match experience and some grit in tough situation

@FattusCattus  please take note. experience counts.

indeed I seems that way Alan

I think its helped I will bat anywhere in the top 6, so some of the guys don't fancy opening I always do it

by the same token if he wants me to bat 5/6 I do that as well, I have adapted my game a bit to cope with both, seems to have worked  :)

Just a brief word on my beloved Chertsey CC -

1st, 2nd and 3rd XIs are all already promoted from their respective leagues. The 1st and 3rds are already champions and the 2XI should be crowned if they win on Saturday.

The 4XI struggled all season in a strong league but have now hauled themselves out of the relegation zone to the safety of mid table and live to fight another day.

Due to injury I've played twice this season - perhaps I should retire and simply become club mascot.

Nonsense - there's life in the old dog yet - erm, I mean Cat - obvs...  ;)

Asked to bat at 11 due to my achilles is still on the mend since tearing it. Not needed to bat. Bowled ok on a bouncy pitch with not much turn.

Low point was while fielding on the boundary kneeling down to make a wall the ball skipped up at speed and squashed into my middle leg.

Highlight of the day was clean bowling a current international player with a slider. Ok he's about 12 and in the youth setup as primarily a bowler but still.

Played against against him last year. He's a quick bowler. Good to see him progressing in technique and strength with more variation adapting to the batsman.

We choken saturday meaning we are 15 points off promotion with 1 game to go.

Didnt help that the oppo refused to give anything out., even massive nicks behind, so i hope they are proud of their promotion. With our league having a massive overhaul with the birmingham league sides slotting back in, third could put us any where next season anyway. Still very disappointed.

I got 22, disappointing but it was the worst pitch ive played on all year, very tough and they bowled well.

I need a 50 next week to meet a personal milestone.

Well, I straight drove a half volley off a spinner about as hard as I have ever hit a ball last night, only to find it flying back at me having hit the non-striker square in the box. He was doing a star jump at the moment of impact and didn't quite get the required altitude. (No Swearing Please) cost me 4 runs.

Amazingly, after 10 minutes of rolling around, he decided to bat on and scored a decent 20 not out.

I reckon it would have taken me longer to stop cursing and laughing at him if I were you 😂

I've now asked to spend the last 2 weeks of the season in the seconds. I want to have a decent game or two before going overseas, and will definitely get more of a bat and bowl in the 2s even though I'm good enough to do more in the 1s. Former club skipper who helped with winter nets is disappointed with how little opportunity I've been given with the bat, so I'm hopeful of getting a few runs last two weeks plus a game for Frogs before I fly.

Injury means I missed last week's game, against the team bottom of the division (We lost) and now I'm going to miss our last game of the season away to the side top of the division.

We're going to get relegated and all I can do is sit at home pressing F5 on the play-cricket webpage on a Saturday evening.

Sorry to hear that Big Mac. Hope it's nothing too serious?

I injured my foot last night at 5-a-side so i'm currently hoping it's strong enough to play Saturday as we have a super-important league fixture against 4th bottom, who we're 10 points off at 2nd bottom, so it's a double-point fixture which could see us relegated or surviving.

Bruised heel/sprained ankle.

It's mostly fine now but I'm not sure if I could handle 45 overs in the field + running between wickets.
