Got the news whilst at Lords on Thursday that we had hoped for, we managed to finish 3rd in B&D one with rumours of 3 going up. We missed out on 2nd spot due to Clevedon being the only team who managed to get a win in on an otherwise washed out weekend where we played top spot and divided the points between us with an abandonment.

We worked hard as a club and were well clear of 4th spot so pleased we get to move up a level and test ourselves. We were in the WEPL but effectively suffered a double relegation when they restructured the leagues which pushed us back down into div 1.

We’re steiggling to hold onto our county academy players due to this as their coaches are telling them they need to be playing wepl cricket...having your talented players taken away at 16/17 makes it even harder to get back into those divisions to hold onto them!

Why do I bother.
Spend ages chasing round to get 11 players.
They all end up to be bowlers (although we got hit for 321 off 40 overs)

I then get triggered by a teammate. LBW off a ball that was never threatening the stumps.

Thanks for coming... 😡

Did I mention the bowlers in my side were all lower league players...
Oppo were fairly decent and took a liking to the buffet

Had an end of season game for Firle today. Before now my average for Firle in friendlies was touching 70. Not any more. Got sold up the river to be run out for 2, before going 0/24 off 5. Then kept 20 overs, took 2 catches standing up and a stumping, although the stumping was to be honest atrocious. Bat charged and missed it, ball came to me and I fumbled it twice before picking the ball up and stumping him at the third attempt... A win though, but not ideal prep for Aus with my game tomorrow cancelled. Tomorrow now being spent with the Ansty Ladies team as I have become their lucky mascot it seems.

Played at @KettonJake 's old club today. I think i would also form my own breakaway club if i had to bat on that cabbage patch every week! On a wet green track balls were barely getting shin high, barring the odd one that would randomly rear up to my head off a length!

We only had 6 of us there with a few minutes to go as our skipper and several others were delayed in traffic so i had to act as captain. Won the toss and obviously had to bat on their very questionable wicket with so few of us there. I opened the batting and me and our other opener put together 40 off 10 overs before i got undone by one that nipped away and clipped the top of my off stump for 21. I had decided that on such a bad wicket i may as well just throw the kitchen sink at anything not hitting the stumps. Got plenty of chat about "only playing on the legside" (i'm a left hander, if you bowl on my legs you will be getting hit through the leg side funnily enough!) We then collapsed as per usual, and ended up on 108.

Our opening bowlers are brothers and are the 2 top wicket takers in the league, and as they do most weeks, had the oppo in trouble at 20-3. A hefty partnership looked to have taken the game away from us, but then our left-armer produced a quality 5-for to leave them needing 36 with 2 wickets in hand at the end of his spell. We then bought on our youngster who got carted in his 2 overs and the game was done! Had both our openers had another 2 overs each it may have been a different story.

Another good day for me in the field, took another sharp grab at gully to get rid of their gobby South African keeper who called me a cheat for not giving a stumping that he was adamant was out. (They were a weird mix, a gobby old keeper, a couple of gobby youngsters, and the rest were absolutely sound blokes!)

This means ive had 14 catching chances in the 14 games and i've taken 12 of them. Would be top of the division if we put our catches up on playcricket!

Not yet mate, WEPL have meet but think B&D May still be thrashing it out as waiting to hear if ourv4’s have gone up after a 3rd spot finish as well.

I play for littletown in the durham cricket league division 2 - our firsts got promoted by about 10 points. The 2nds who i play for won the league on the last day - we were second going into the last week but the league had a recount of all the points and found we were owed 9 bonus points from the first game of the season - this meant we were 5 points ahead going into the last game. We won the game in a reduced overs game and the 2nd placed team could only draw meaning we won the league! Ended up with a monster hangover yesterday.

Personally had my best season ever finishing on 395 across all teams so all in all a very good season - best score of the season 75* as we chased down 234.

With our group in the local t20 tournament tied between 3 teams and the 4th team getting thrashed by the 2 others, it was always going to come to NRR. The equation in order to qualify for our final pool game... bat first, win by 130+ runs, bowl first and chase the target in less than 7 overs. Luckily we won the toss and went to bat first. Went in at number 3 with the score at 5/1 in the 2nd over. Came out unbeaten at 143 off 55 (15 sixes and 5 boundaries) with the total at 316/3. Big shoutout to @Blank Bats and Tai for this monster. Only the 2nd game of the season with this bat and its already unreal. Naturally we won by 210 runs and topped the table. Onwards to the QF.

So my season comes to an end with our final league game today. Another win and another promotion which is our 3rd in a row. Batted first and we made 179/7 from 35 overs in a reduced game. We were already champs and they were comfortable mid table. Pitch was very slow and only 3 overs bowled by seam bowlers all game.
Managed to top score with 66 and then out stumped which is a very unusual dismissal for me.

In reply they managed 114 all out. Game played in a lovely spirit on a lovely end of summer day.

So I finished the season with 446 runs from 10 games at an Avg of 63.71 which I’m happy with but could have been better as the 2nd half of my season wasn’t anywhere near my first half with the bat. Strike rate or 72 which for a traditional opener I’m
Happy with. Top score 109* with the single ton and 3 x 50+ scores.
Keeping wise a very quite year with just 6 catches and the single stumping behind the league wicket all year from my 8 games keeping very little opportunities given.

So we move on to Div 4 of the two counties set up for next season and draw a close to a very good and very hot 2018 season
