minor spine reduction
« on: March 23, 2018, 06:21:17 PM »

one of my bats is JUST slightly "illegal" - when going through the bat gauge, the spine makes the bat get stuck in the gauge. I think the difference is about 1-2mm in spine height, with the "extra height" running for about 8mm along the spine.

so to make it pass through the gauge, i would need to lower the spine height by 1-2mm (probably just 1mm) in a small section (8mm long) of the spine. can this be be done by just gently hand-sanding that area? I figured by going slow and gently, with fine sandpaper, i should be able to maintain most (obviously not all) of the "sharpness" of the spine?

Working through a few grades should do the job perfectly - maybe 120 / 180 / 240 / 320 - as fine as you prefer to go.

Having said that, the regulations for spine height are not actually in force for club players, and for existing bats will probably never be. You could just leave it as it is.

Give the raised area a gentle tap with your wooden knocking in mallet

Unless you're playing at County level, why bother?
