Please Help Save Heworth Cricket Club
« on: March 31, 2018, 08:28:59 AM »

Hello there,

Yesterday, my cricket club, in association with the local council, started a petition to try and help save it from forced relocation.

We share the pitch/clubhouse with City of York Hockey Club, who actually own the ground and building.  They are looking to relocate to build their own AstroTurf and therefore sell the current set-up for housing development.

This will rip our cricket club from its community roots, destroying over 230 years of heritage and history.

All I ask is for the petition to be signed and shared, to get as much traction as we can to highlight the selfish decision making of the Hockey Club and see whether there are alternate ways beneficial for both clubs.

Many thanks for your time and effort.

Good luck with it.

I haven’t signed it because if it’s their land then they are free to sell. Maybe the club could buy it ?

Fair enough. That's your choice. Maybe I should have mentioned  that we have around 70 years left on our lease with the hockey club.

We tried to buy it a few years ago, by using donations and going through the regional development director, we could have got a considerable grant to offer them.  Then they could use the money given to create a 10% for their own grant to make enough for their needs but they declined it knowing that if they can get housing planning permission for this patch of land (current green belt) then they can get a lot more for it.

Land with planning permission is worth a lot 🙈

Green belt means nothing, it can be removed easily enough as they have done with our land to enable us to sell it for development.

@joeljonno i assume they have a release clause in the lease? Is the ground held charitably?
