What next for the Australian test team??
« on: April 03, 2018, 10:00:19 AM »

So without going in to the obvious reasons why, there looks to me to be 3/4 positions up for grabs for this team (All batting positions)

I really feel for Renshaw, Burns & Handscomb (yes on the tour already but he wouldn't have played normally).

Will Australia stick with these guys for a while now? Or did they just get the call up as they had previous test match experience? Should Maxwell be in the top 5 of the test team?

Aussie forum members, any players you think should be genuinely knocking at the test team door? I know a lot of people in Australia think Khawaja is on borrowed time too (I love however watching him bat), Is Marcus Harris going to get a go opening the innings?

Travis Dean is another opening option as is Aaron Finch. I’d stick with Renshaw although I’m not 100% sold on Burns as yet. I think we have to include Maxwell

Still shocked Maxwell can’t get a game. Behind Smith he is the next best in the country!

I think young Renshaw and Burns should safe as the openers, the final Test isn't really a true reflection considering jet lag etc. I think Khawaja and the Marsh brothers should get axed. A lot of hype for Mitchell marsh post Ashes but he merely feasted on a demoralized English attack. Philander showed he still can't buy a run if there's any movement on offer. I think Stonis should be serious consideration, he's got that self belief that many are missing in the current XI.

Renshaw
Burns
Stonis
Handscombe
Cartwright
Maxwell
Paine
Cummins
Lyon
Hazlewood
Agar/Richardson/SoK depending on conditions

I am not sure. They will all bugger off to the ipl soon. Perfect time to install a new coaching panel.

Handscombe is suspect to me, but he may be the next Smith....eg thrives with natural talent and a weird technique.

Khawaja was not happy under the old guard, but they are on a paid holiday for 12 months.

Maxwell has one last go.

Marshs are the same.

Paine was retired

Love to see Finch in the tests.

Not sold on Renshaw..

Stoinis made 360 runs @ 17 in his last 22 four day innings over 2 seasons. White ball cricketer.

Interesting to see what the stance will be on Smith/Warner/Bancroft in terms of them being allowed to play county cricket.
I'm sure they'll cop a lot of sledging/abuse from opposing teams.

Except Aussie Club cricket I think. Apparently so he can give back to the community. Show the clubbies a few tricks...
