I'll have a go sanding it back tomorrow and see how it goes. Cheers.

I reckon the toe can be done without sanding it right back. Just fill the feathered bit with loads of Gorilla glue, tape it up very tight with packing tape and ideally clamp with wood between the Jaws of a vice. Then scrape/sand off the excess glue and it should be fine.

Have tried that already @Psi part of the problem is that I don't have a vice, just a set of less than brilliant clamps.

With the packing tape method you don’t need a vice.

That does assume that I have packing tape though 😅

TBH sellotape or normal bat tape will do the job just fine. The best type of Gorilla glue is the orange coloured expanding glue.

Cheers, I'll see what I've got sitting around the house. May just end up sanding it down but I'll investigate whether gluing and taping is an option.

Second bat refurb underway. Girlfriend borrowed a bat from one of the girls at her club which had been "repaired" by one of the guys there.

Removed the mountain of bat tape, glued the cracks as best I can then sanded down. Will definitely need some more tape once it's had a couple of coats of oil but reasonably happy given it has had some serious abuse and was never originally knocked in.

Good job. Shoulder cracks like those are always a worry.

Yeah, I'm not sure how long it will last. Shouldn't be used against any particularly quick bowlers though so fingers crossed.

Little refurb project to keep me busy for an afternoon. Size 6 Newbery Tour, lot of RH inside edge damage and feathered toe.

Scuff removed and cracks glued along with toe using Gorilla wood glue. Clamped and left for approx 4 hours. Initial sanding process completed with 120 grit first round and 240 second round. Will do a 400 grit tomorrow and if I’m happy leave there or will
Go up to 600.

So latest refurb project complete. This has been my match bat for the last season and a half and was gifted to me from a current county Pro. It’s a GM Neon OLE. Standard shape nothing special in that sense.

This had a serious crank through the toe and back of the bat when I received it in the winter of 2018. Glued and clamped and used all of 2018 and half of last season and was looking very tired and a bit beat up.

So stripped all back using a glue at gun to remove stickers and then white spirit and a scrapper to remove excess glue which I must say wasn’t the best and need to find a better solution as the bat was still really tacky after the white spirit. Looks easy in a few videos Iv seen.

So sanding took about 2 hours in total with an orbital sander and lots of sanding discs to remove all the glue etc. Started with 80 grit then 120 and finally 240. No other cracks to speak of and checked over the toe and it’s still super strong by the looks of things.
Finished with a hand sanding at 400 grit wet and dry which I must say gives a lovely finish. The only issue is I don’t have a polishing wheel at present time so unable to polish.
Added some B&S stickers to match my new softs.

Think I’ll get another few years out of this yet.

Great effort. I discovered that the quickest way to get the scuff sheet glue off is wire wool dipped in white spirit. Doesn't seem to cause any damage and it cleans off all that tacky black glue, means you don't waste lots of time and orbital sanding sheets.
