Cost of small mens/academy bats
« on: April 25, 2018, 06:48:01 PM »

As a vertically challenged bloke I've been looking at trying a small adults Kook, just add am experiment more than anything. There's a grade 1 Kahuna online for just less than £100 with following spec - std width 108mm, 35mm edge, 58mm spine and 83cm in length at 2lbs 6, grade 1. Before going ahead i just wondered much would I'd be looking at through a sponsor for something in this size? Are they generally priced the same as a harrow or a S/H?

Is weight an issue? I got a blaze pro for billyb off here. From memory the blade length was the same as a kook kahuna lite, and the handle was a cm shorter. So a t20 style bat with a super short handle. Billy s was light as well, around 2-4.

Currently have a gm academy bat in the shop. Overall I think the bat is around a cm shorter than sh but the bat is smaller size wise overall, same as what you get with the kook bats

Some brands price them at adult prices, others at junior prices. Kookaburra is the latter, some of the ‘junior’ willow at the higher end of their range that I’ve seen over the years has been very impressive

I'm issuing a 2lbs 10 s/h at the minute but just wanted to experiment with a lighter/smaller bat. 2lbs 4 could be a touch too light in fairness.

Cheers for the info mate. It's at the higher end, a Kahuna 2000 so should be decent willow. Was just wondering what the bat makers on here would charge if they offered this size out of interest that was all. I'd always try and give my business to a UK maker/company if poss, but as you say pricing seems to differ on this size.

I doubt you'd get a grade 1 UK made bat for £100 in any size to be honest, worth an ask but it is a bit of a stretch!

Yeah I'd doubt it too but just thought I'd see what's available through the forum before going elsewhere :D

As your experimenting your probably best to go with the one you’ve seen. Kook only have the blaze pro in stock and that will be around £185 , tho the one I had in was very decent willow

Thanks mate, appreciate the advice. It was just that really, at the price it's worth a punt to satisfy my curiosity really. As I said tho, always like to keep things in the UK cricket businesses where possible so thought I'd ask the question of the forum sponsors first.

Thanks. Probably a bit more than I'd wanna pay to see if I'd get on with the size 1st tho really

How tall are you? From what I've seen of academy bat's there isn't much size difference so you'd probably be fine for that, just weights the issue

For £100 I presume it's on sale? So full price possibly £200 so for a junior G1 that sounds about right. Worth a punt at that price, can always return it

Yeah it's on sale at £89 with 3D. I'm 5' 6" ahs just hacked using something slightly smaller/lighter to see how it feels. Probably worth a punt to try it, could always sell it on I suppose. Just thought I'd ask first to see if i could keep business through the forum.
