Afternoon all.
Thought I would share some pics of a couple of stunners that I picked up from Salix yesterday. As some may know I spent a few years working at salix about 5 years ago when I lived in Kent but since then have struggled to find the time to go and catch up with friends etc. So having spent Sunday and Monday catching up with old friends and my old club on the Sunday I had a bit of spare time before coming home.
So I popped into have a catch up and possibly get myself another bat as loving my GM’s this season but still the best bat I ever had was my HitsHard Super Power.
Anyway set up is still the same with everything done by hand, lovely selection of willow across all grades. Anyway after the catch up and cup of tea etc I finally started talking about a new bat for myself, Andrew then showed me these 2 stunners. So these are AJK clefts so finite grade but they have tiny amounts of compression cracks (storm damage) in the heartwood section, I have tried to show this on the pics but it generally is quite small and faint. Andrew was always so meticulous when it comes to grading and grades and checks every bat himself throughout the process to ensure his grading remains so exact, I’m sure a lot of others would just put these out as top end.
Anyway bith bats are 2.12 but one is very full profile with a slight duckbill toe and the other so lightly concave with spine running into the toe. Both have the new black and navy labels which in the light look amazing. Size wise both very similar the fuller profile is slightly bigger at 39mm edges and the other is 37mm edges with decent spine, inside the the new measurements for sure.
The most impressive element is the performance, both have the rounded face with salix having moved away from the flatter faced bats and the pressing is so spot on. The convex shape really in mind blowing in immediate response. Regardless of the slight compression cracks I think these are fun times bats maybe won’t last as long as others but will perform from the go.
