Trad Trialists
« on: May 22, 2018, 08:08:24 PM »

Ok little update on this, I’ve got 3 pre-production samples in carbon fibre that I’d like to invite any CBF members who are keen to get their hands on and head into one.

They will be £250 each inc U.K. delivery & VAT and you can select the colour you desire. They come with the air liner and a fixed position titanium grille as with the other RAW models.

Please drop me a line if genuinely interested, I can provide some pics of the black one I’ve produced for myself if you’d like any insight into the finished look. Part of the process is to wear and use them and provide feedback about it for future development and the next interaction. (You will also be able to acquire this next interaction at a much reduced price if desired as a Trialist).

Cheers

Tom

Look great Tom, could be on to a winner if lighter than the current Masuri’s. Definitely interest from me if they hit production 👍🏻

Any chance of a cloth covered finish on these, Tom?

Yes that’s an option for the final product for those yearning for that traditional look 👍

Weight wise they should be very lightweight too, hard to say exact weight yet if adding cloth etc but hopefully 700g or below if all goes to plan.

Are they £250 just because they care carbon fibre?? Just thinking that the price point is very very high compared to the Masuri & Shrey lids

Personally I really like the new design but that cost would really put me off

That’s the price point for a carbon fibre shell Raw model yes, it’s more cost effective to develop the carbon fibre model 1st in terms of tooling prior to going down the more affordable plastic shell version as this requires an Injection moulding tool that isn’t cheap!

Carbon component = more expensive raw material  but cheaper tool
Plastic component shell = cheaper raw material but more expensive tool

If I can Pin down that the shape/size and fit is right then Progressing onto the more affordable models in the next step.

Just out of curiosity - How hard was it for you to persuade yourselves into building a helmet into a regular (popular/common) shape?
Or do you think its part of evolution? I myself use an ayrtek and love my helmet.
Best wishes on this new type.

Yeh took alot of persuasion in terms of the wrestling in my head between why do it and should I just stick to the existing shape but this design has been on my PC for a while but I've never pressed the button to put it into any larger scale production. Whilst the original (Rad) helmet will always be a staple of the Ayrtek Cricket brand (and what we are recognised for) I cant help but feel im cutting off a large % of the market by not offering somethign that people who dont like the Rad model would wear by having a more traditional looking helmet whilst still integrating the Ayrtek design ethos.

In order to move the brand forward to the next stage by offering both the Trad and Rad models it will broaden my market reach (I hope!) and by using the patented air liner and EPS liners in both shell models people have options over several price points and the look to opt for something they like.

These will have the air liner so approx 53-62cm I’d say. Be interesting to get feedback from people trying them who have different head sizes.

This is the one I’ve been using for the last few weeks, as I say not the final product as grille needs moving down slightly to marry shapes up with the mounting plate and sweep of the helmet still (As per the graphical image in the 1st post).

I like this shape a lot . Kinda ayrteky still. A little bit albiony , and a slight wee bit of masuri/shreyness going on too . This in carbon /air liner combo would be most peoples ultimate helmet. My only wish would be if you made 8 more air vent holes ( tom , you must be sick of me saying this , and ayrteks are already very breathable , but I'm going to keep at it until i annoy you into making them !  :D :D :D).
Anyway , if i didnt already have two carbon ayrteks id buy one .

Any more pics of these @Ayrtek Cricket

I've got an old Masuri that I'm keen to replace and this could be the ideal thing. Cloth covered would also be interesting to see also and I think that would help open up the market.

Will snap a few more, think the new mould will improve the overall look too and make it look more refined.
