Short blade options
« on: June 05, 2018, 12:57:21 PM »

Hi,
After experimenting with various new and secondhand bats I keep returning to my short blade bat as I feel I get more value for my shots.  I would like to get a similar one in a lighter weight to improve batspeed but struggling to identify my options.

Current bat is 2.12 but would like to try a 2.8 or 2.9.

Not interested in the tiny mongoose style so the options i've identified so far include:
Old newbury uzi
GM kaha
bb b20
Newbery blitz
Custom

Am I missing anything obvious?
I don't care about bat looks and would prefer it affordable but Is a lower grade bat such as a kaha 404 a terrible idea?

Thanks for any input

Go for CA. You won't be disappointed. They top performing and shorter blades.

You will gain bat speed at that weight but you will lose blade mass as well which may reduce the value for shots.

And shorter handles, and narrower faces... :-[

GM neon is in between the KAHA and regular SH and it's working perfect for me

No they not narrower faces or shorter handles. Please stop spreading false information about CA.

So the long handle CA I currently own that's the same length as a standard Short Handle and 102mm wide isn't a narrower face or a shorter handle?
Okay...

Okay...

I have measured 4 of the CA bats (not all mine) for length and width. The blade is slightly shorter, exactly the same as GN players choice velocity. Width is 106-108. Yours either is an exception or a fake.

On the weight, moving from 2.12 to 2.10 is a better move than going all the way down to 2.8/9

I can only speak from experience (and i am an awesome batsman), but B20's are cracking bats.

Go for one of them in the compromise weight of 2.10 and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the pick up and balance.

They're big b*stards too!

How much shorter?

Most if not all Keeley and Kippax bats are about 1cm shorter.

Uzi Poseidon likewise

Aldred have some shorter blade models that look nice

Neon do a slightly shorter one, the Pink??? All are custom made so easy to spec what you want

Small mens or Academy sized bats will come in that weight, be shorter and terrific value. I think Uzi and Six Sixes have hooked people up on here, mostly with Kooks or GMs

Lots of options... what is the current bat you get on well with?

Currently using a blackcat - love the beef but would like a full width face.
Have a kippax colossus at 2.11, feels lighter by miles but still prepping for use. Not as beefy as the blackcat though.
Keeley brand bats are way out of my price range.

Would academy bats still be full length (or as near as makes no difference?). I will look into these, thanks for the tip.

Really like the unusual look of the b20 and all feedback on them seems to be positive. Just need someone to use for a season and get bored of it then I can snap it up  :)

I totally take your point. 2.10 seems a much more sensible step but I thought I would just try something really quite different and see how I get on.  Particularly as I'm using 2.11/2.12 more out of circumstance than preference.
