Morning,

Looking for some recommendations for a shorter blade/longer handle (but overall SH length) bats, please. Budget of around £200-£250. Interested to know your experiences and thoughts on available options.

Many thanks

JT

Tried one but for me it felt that the longer handle made the pick up feel heavier compared to the shorter blade and standard S/H handle bat the same weight  due to the hands holding the bat higher up with normal grip on the longer handle ie hands being further away from the blade

So @Seniorplayer you would be inclined to just go with a shorter blade with a short handle (shorter overall length)?

i have one of these @JTtaylor145  Its a Joe Root Profiled Keeley - it has a shorter blade Normal SH - it does take some getting used to *(slightly) but bat speed is improved alot and you sort of feel like you have a wand in your hand  - your abit lower down to too in your stance which i wasnt sure on at first but seeing as I have the bat in the air when bowler running in doesnt really matter - havent used it much but am starting to - I guess its more a mental thing to get used to but bat speed is increased for sure - also handle doesnt "get in the way"

For me yes being short it has advantages not just the lighter pickup the short blade standard S/H handle gives  a better and faster follow through the 1 inch shorter blade is easier to play shots inc ground clearance on the drive currently. Looking at the GN pro performance ones on sale on EBay from Lormiers.

How does the handle get in the way?
Are you holding your bat by the shoulders still?

Shorter blade longer handle bats work well if you hold the handle in the same place as normal from the top of the handle, not up from the shoulders.
I hold my bats near the top of the handle so it's never caused an issue, in fact if I hadn't been told @Northern monkey's affinity had a shorter blade and longer handle I wouldn't have known!

Short blades are a great idea if you hold the bat up the top of the handle - I'm 6'3 and a couple of my favourite bats are shorter blades, but my grip is close to the top so doesn't make any difference in overall length. If you prefer gripping low on the handle then they're obviously a daft idea!

They do feel a bit different with the weight being in a slightly different palace to a normal blade, I like that personally but some won't of course. A well balanced SB feels really good through the bat swing imo. Definitely feel it extends the hitting zone a bit too, it's much less often you feel like you've mistimed a shot in my experience so far.

Personally I don’t find any difference. The blade length is only slightly shorter in bats like my warbird/red ink (custom). If you are sensitive to these minor differences you will have to go into a shop and try a few out.

Also found when bringing the bat down longer handles can jam into your mid drift

How? I've never heard anyone say this before...

I'm picturing Senior out in his souped up Nissan drift car, showboating waving his Pro Performance short blade out the window mid corner when he just catches some gravel and the bat is jolted out of his hand, sadly it goes under the rear wheels... would never have happened with a shorter handle, he thinks to himself as he surveys the wreckage of his precious 2lb6 wand!

what, you mean he meant midriff, not mid-drift? Psshhh.
