Bleach Stain / Opposite of Heartwood
« on: June 13, 2018, 11:17:36 AM »

Hi guys,

Some bats seem to have almost a bleach stain/something similar across/around the blade (See pic below). Anybody know what causes it and how it would effect a bat? Is it effectively the opposite of heartwood?

if you're referring to that horizontal stain under the splice it is only natural imperfection of the willow. purely cosmetic and pretty shallow. have had many bats with similar marks. not going to affect the performance of the bat at all

I presume he means the LH edge - as we see it - where a grain or two is lighter.

Don't think it's bleach  just natural wood colour or could it be a water mark  looks a nice bat though

Could that bat have started out as a much darker piece of wood and has then been heavily bleached, with the lighter part having started white and now gone even whiter with bleaching? Never seen one like it before tbh.

Fire a photo to Wrights on FB, they're good at answering stuff like that.

Or even Hunts as it looks like they made it.

It’s not a Hunts. Shame the stickers weren’t sanded a bit better before I took the photo so could do a guess the maker...

Had a response from Wright’s. Apparently this can sometimes appear from the wood taken from the very centre of a tree.

If it had been heavily bleached as suggested in this topic you’d know about it, because it would be white, and the grains would have been lost/blurred somehat.

Looks a nice bat and the lighter area is nothing to worry about. What is it? Certainly looks Hunts or Choice made to me

It’s a ZX Bronze

Not sure if @Chad still logs in but the one I just sent to him was an absolute stunner!
