Batting
« on: June 19, 2018, 10:29:50 AM »

For the first time in ages (since 2014) I find myself thinking about batting. It never crossed my mind in those years but today all i can think about is how i used to pistion my back foot in my stance and trigger back and across to unweight myself ready to pounce.

What are people's thoughts on having my backfoot pointing to 10/11 o'clock in all shots? I seem to remember it made my square cuts and back foot shots very good and the on drive became very accessible.

There are 3 people I’d ask about this if I were asking the question, @Buzz @Vulcan Cricket and yourself

In answer to your question, it could work, it worked for keith medlecott as a club player.

As for you today, best of luck and forget everything and just watch the ball.

what you've described is near enough what Gary Palmer coaches, although he wants batters to end up with both feet pointing towards the bowler.

the more I think about my feet, the worse I bat. so I agree with Buzz here.

yes thats a good motto. Always just watch the ball and never worry about anything other than the current moment.

when i used to bat id think about anything but batting until i took my stance. Mentally you have to conserve energy.

Batting is a superb challenge both mentally, physically and technically. I love it. I despise fielding though.

^ I think maintaining focus is the biggest challenge when batting. Technical and physical aspects are easy to train for. How do you control your impulsivity? Keep knocking balls around rather than hit every loose delivery over the rope?

Gary Palmer's technique works really well against swing fast/medium bowlers. You still need the side-on/horizontal backfoot to generate power to play on the off side. This toe-pointing business can confuse the heck out of you if you don't practice against a variety of bowlers. What I have discovered is that I need to point my front toe down the middle stump and rotate the backfoot when playing straight or the on-side but start off the with the horizontal position in the first place.
