@SOULMAN1012 :

You spend a lot of money on bats, Chris. You have access to, and experience of using, some really great ones. So what is your fascination with lower grade models such as the GM Signatures?

Just curious.

@Bats_Entertainment

Firstly because I am totally against paying £400-£700 for “top grade, G1, G1++++ or what ever” when know knowing after buying something 100 bats and spending £££ that grade means nothing vs performance. GM bats perform as well as any other in my opinion once prepared, GM are no where near as hard as they were and certainly this year can be used straight out the shop but mine have all had 90mins max mallet work and a few bola machine nets.

Secondly U.K. made is something that I prefer and would like to try  and support and I get this at any grade with GM

Finally in the instance of GM the handle shapes and size are just perfect for me as I prefer a semi oval handle and single grip and every GM I have picked up has had a decent sized grip. In addition there softs are some of the best in the market and offer a genuine small men’s size not just a youth sized option.

I have 3 top, top end bats in my collection but can honestly say unless I ever get to a position or more money than sense I will
not be spending the kind of money I have in the past as you just don’t need to in my opinion

Totally agree with @SOULMAN1012 on this. A team mate of mine had a 606 Luna one year and couldn't get away with it. Thought it a total plank, so I used it for half a dozen games, scored some runs and took the mallet to it, once it'd opened up it was as good as any bat at the club. So much so one guy asked to use it, and left his M&H (that was probably four times the price) in the bag.

GM especially give you great value in lower grades, but ultimately most lower grade bats of any brand will play well eventually.

Thanks, Chris. I look for value myself, but am less hung up on brand loyalty/ FKW I think. I shall consider looking at these in the future.

And yes as you say I have to be FKW so finding a brand that I like all aspects of is a total bonus

I nearly always take stickers off bats, so guess I'm a bit FKW too.  ;)

* By which I mean that I don't like too many brands going on.

Another way of saving money might be to buy fewer bats? Just a thought.

Our number 11 uses a Chrome Signature and it is definitely one of the best bats we have and also improved his batting no end after the 3lb lump he used to use!!

The thing I have always found with GM's is you need to have patience with them because the lower grades take a while to open up (although as Chris says they are getting better).

However I think if you are prepared to wait they offer the best value for money in the lower grades.

They look amazing for that price. Are all GMs UK made, even the low end ones?

I wish that GM did a retro collection ( like GN do and Kook did with the bubble) I’d love to see a modern diamond or maestro. I had one as a kid and it was beautiful, scored my first ever 50 with a GM.

I can certainly vouch for the signature bats from six sixes. The five fours i hit on my way to 39 yesterday came racing out the middle!

Which of those pictured are still available? My match bat is on its last legs and they look to good to miss at that price
