picked up an original Skyer the other day from Tom (brilliant service arrived next day after paying) and am yet to unleash it so to speak....hoping it will do a job and if to wear the dog out when getting him to chase his ball until outdoor training for us starts.

The boom bat is the more affordable version from what i have heard but thought the Skyrer was coming back down to £75 anyway? Boom bats were £29.99 on ebay i think?

yeh sure the boom will do a job mate as the foam will just be a cheaper version of whats used on the skyer hence the reduction in price.

my coack got a boom a while ago, ive used it when helping out at training for the U13'S, U11'S etc. it takes a little getting used to but it makes life much easier for fielding drills. as u dont need to hit it hard u can be much more accurate doing high catching, boundary fielding etc
for its size its a little unwieldy for close fielding but easier to use than a real bat. tbh the only way in which i feel the skyer could be better enough to reflect the price difference is if the skyer is easier to use for slip cathing. im not very strong tho and im not an adult so it could just be me.
i dont reckon the skyer is worth the extra really though and the boom is pink! 8)

What is there to get used to - is the a special technique to get used to, or a certain way of hitting the balls?

I've heard a couple of people say they struggled when they first got it, but then got used to it - what's the knack?

no real technique its just different from a normal bat and takes a little while to get used to. the main thing i found tricky to start with was hitting on the flat rubber rather than where it is sloping out. it should be fine after 15-20min or so
