Bag Recommendations
« on: July 27, 2018, 09:41:34 AM »

I have an ancient GN Matrix wheelie bag that is absolutely full to burst with my kit now so i'm in the market for a new one.

I like the idea of the backpack style ones, anyone have any pros/cons for using these?

It needs to be big enough for all my kit with room to spare for matchday stuff (whites, towel, change of clothes etc).

I used to have a big Gray Nicolls bag with multiple compartments for the best part of 20 years and it did the job but I had to throw it away recently. I now have a kookaburra backpack one that opens like a rucksack with a drawstring at the top. I bought it with the overly-optimistic idea of cycling to games.

It works ok if all you intend to keep in it is your basic stuff like bat, gloves, pads, box, spikes. I keep all my other stuff that I take to games, like my whites, my caps, sunglasses, deodorant, towel, suncream, spare socks etc in a separate bag. I tried keeping everything together in the rucksack, it was a disaster as you couldn't find anything without emptying the whole thing out onto the floor.

That's a good point actually, I thought a bigger bag would prevent having to unpack it all everytime I needed to dig something out but maybe not.

Do you prefer the wheelie or backpack style? Cycling to games was my thinking too so i'd be keen to get some feedback on how that's going/gone.

My current system works well for me as I keep my cricket kit in the car, but all the whites and stuff are in a little duffel bag that comes into the house after each game (so I actually remember to wash them).

But my main piece of advice if you get a backpack style bag and you want to keep everything in it, is to avoid one that only has a drawstring opening at the top.

In my view you can’t beat the Slazenger tour duffle. It is massive and also has wheels. Recently on sale at sports direct for £20 if they have any left.

I’ve got a Cobra cricket wheelie bag and would highly recommend. 3 bat compartments and 4 external pockets. Prefer this to my old Newbery SPS wheelie bag as they never used to have anywhere to put your bat or any external pockets.

I've got the GN legend duffle and its decent - if a little on the small side but then i dont have tons of gear. Space for 3 bats in it though.

Often people think that a duffle bag is the way forward's for cycling to games but beware because duffle bags have changed drastically over the last 2/3 years. They are now basically as big as a large bag and some have wheels as well. My Kookaburra one is huge and is brilliant for walking around (to and from my club when needed) but getting on and off a bike, absolutely no chance!!

In a nod to the above, I use an SG Playerspak bag. As duffles go is is pretty compact, but I only take limited kit to matches...

I've got a fresh batch of duffles in stock if you're after something you can wear on your bike as well as fit all of your kit in.

I would recommend getting the biggest bag imaginable. That way you never have to organise your bag or put things in a specific way to make it fit, just lob it in. It has the added bonus of driving ocd tyes and clean freaks mental. Those individuals that love to point out a grammatical error.

The horror on their face makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

In short, go massive.

The Red Ink duffles are worth a look. One larger which will take all your kit and one smaller one for those who are more selective on kit they take

Big thumbs up for the Ayrtek bag. I used to hate duffles, but this one is excellent, durable and easy to ferret around in. Stands up well too.

Makes me look like a proper cricketer 😮
