In recent times I have seen kyle Jarvis Zimbabwe  player using a bat with AM sticker on it.

As for international players they get bats from different bat makers.

The CA bat in question here was sent by Shoib Malik Pakistan International player on Kolhi's request.

To not put the legitimate value of a product on the customs form is an illegal practice, each to their own but I'm quite happy paying the taxes I'm meant to be paying.

Next thing you'll be complaining our public services are under funded...

This !!

Really? What about that ? You didn't pay your customs duty out of "duty"? Why didn't you do your part in funding "public services?

I ordered the cage and it was sent from UK.
United States customs called me to find out what the heck was it, and I said batting cage for my kids. So they let it go without putting any duties on me.

Cricket bats should be exempt especially in places with low-to-no market or industry. They are low value items that most people in the world wouldn't know what to do with.

Even if duty was exempt it would still not match the rebates bat manufacturers in Asia are granted.

Frankly, thats a dumb assessment and an even dumber question to ask.

The answer is simple and straight, I didn’t try to cheat the system by devaluing the cost of my purchase.
There was a sales receipt attached to the package and it had full price of the item clearly marked.

I spoke to a custom officer who asked what is it? And. I truthfully replied as to what it was.

It was then her job and her discretion to assess whether there is a duty or tax on it? I think she knew the U.S., custom laws more than you and I. And I think U.S, and U.K custom and import duty/taxes laws are different.

And if there was a duty or tax on my item, she would’ve charged me 100% of it because she wasn’t my “puphi ki beyti”
But since there wasn’t any US duty or import tax on the item, I wasn’t asked to pay any.

How hard is it to understand?

Just a quick update on my bat.

Gave two coats of oil, knocked in for probably couple of hours with special attention given to the sharp edges. It was so soft, very easy to dent. Also applied scuff sheet.

To counter the weight, put significant amount of counter balancing. Used an old grip and cut it into small pieces for counterbalance (Thanks to advice by Aussie fast bowler).

It is now 2.12

So had a nets session today. Must say that i m really happy with it so far

There are no dumb questions only dumb answers and yours (above) fully qualifies.

They didn't charge you even if there was a full price listed? So, technically, cricket equipment is duty exempt whether value is listed or not. Why the hell were you jumping up and down in the other thread claiming moral high ground?! I paid more on a cricket bat duty then you did on your rickety setup, so you should STFU.

Reviving this old topic. AS have started a sale again and since i was visiting pakistan i thought i would take the opportunity to order 1. I have kept my requirements realistic and very much gettable. They have promised delivery tomorrow. Heres what i asked for.

1. Top grade blemish free AS Champ profile
2. No heartwood and straight even grains (even if its just 6 grains)
3. Finished weight of less than 1200g (2lb10.3oz)
4. Medium thickness oval handle.

They have asked for approx gbp80

Lets see what they can come up with

I don’t think they use English Willow. Regardless of cheap labor and exchange rate, cost of English willow is significantly high.

If this isnt english willow then i dont know what is...

Anyways the owner had these 2 bats made to my requirements and asked me to choose. He assured me that both would be finished under 1200g but for some reason the batmaker forgot about the oval handle and made both in round handle. I can live with that and i told him that he can send me whichever out of these 2 pings better. Should be arriving tomorrow morning.

He sent me these pics of the finished bat before dispatching. Looks like he chose the 2nd bat which had 6-1/2 grains. Stay tuned for when it arrives tomorrow.

Some manufacturers in the sub-continent are using European Willow and still calling it English Willow.  This willow looks good with many narrow grains, it even plays well for a short time but it is very brittle and soon breaks.  A lot of fake bats will be made form this wood. It grows wild on the rivers of Europe and has to deal with extremes or heat and cold which makes it very slow growing. It is very hard to tell a European Willow from an English Willow bat, generally European willow will be very narrow grained and have a lot of red colour as per the photo, but not always. If the bat is branded and too cheap to be true it could be European Willow.  Photo of European Willow tree here and European Willow cleft.
