Bat choice help!
« on: September 19, 2018, 11:23:19 AM »

Hi all

New to the forum, I am hoping to tap into the knowledge of folk on here!

I've recently got back into playing cricket after a long absence of over 10 years. Just done a few outdoor net sessions and one-on one coaching so far with a view to playing club cricket next season.

While I was feeling my way back in I just picked up a relatively cheap GM Mana from Sports Direct and have really enjoyed using it. I'm about 5' 9" so the shortened blade works well for me plus it has a decent pick up and good middle.

I intend to use that as my net bat next season but am told the pitches I play on will generally be lower and slower than the artificial wickets in the nets. So I figured I need something with a bit of a lower sweet spot but which still remains generally quite light as I'm much more a touch player than a power hitter.

I was wondering if anyone has any bat suggestions please? I've been considering the GM Chrome or Kookaburra Surge as options. For the level of what I'll be playing at, I'm not looking to spend fortunes - max £100, so would be looking at the lower grades of any model.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome,

Gm Zelos would also be an option to the chrome, both have low middles. I have a 404 in each bats, they are currently £80 posted uk  if they take your fancy

GM are a fine choice in general at the lower grades - if you can stretch your budget by £15 or so, you can get a signature grade bat from some places, and they are total bargains for grade 2 bats.

Zelos also has a lower middle.  Like you I prefer the Chrome, think they're quite difficult to find in that grade now though.
