A pair of Mjolnir's
« on: February 16, 2010, 02:51:59 PM »

I have always had a soft spot for Newbery bats since getting my hands on a new series one when at Uni which saw me through a good few seasons. Since its demise i had acquired these two to replace it with. I thought it would make an interesting comparism to look at the same model of bat with a traditional cane handle and the C6 carbon version. Both bats are obviously the same in terms of shape and profile even though there is a diff in weight (2.9 SPS vs 2.5 C6).

Seeing as both are at the top end of the range in terms of willow being used on them I am intrigued to see how different a carbon handle makes a bat feel like when in use. I used the SPS prior to Xmas in a net and it felt really nice and went well. Im not known as a particulary defensive batsman so had a few of the lads ducking with some straight drives!! The C6 will get a go tomorrow when we start our proper nets. I had intended to pass on the C6 as someone asked me to find them a 2.5 bat.....however once getting hold of it I decided to find them a different one :)

Thought I would upload some pics and add to reveiw following using the C6 tomorrow.

P.S this is no reflection on our own bats which went very well last year just not with me on the end of them! This years will be even better Im sure thanks to Mr Brimble! :)

I think i know the bat your talking about - it was the first one i picked up and looked at when i saw them, bit of a stunner.........but saying that, both those newbery's look top drawer, especially if you got one at 2.5, thats almost unheard of to get a short handle at that weight!

Shilly yeah its a nice one even for my little muscles....2.5 is a feather to pick up so hope it still goes when I connect!

They are contract made for us by Mr Talisman.....but he has assured me they are made and pressed to a high spec. here in the UK :) which should help improve my 52 run grand total for saturday games last year!!!!

Tom if you fancy using an Ayrtek and these aren't getting used it would be a shame to waste them. I know many willing batsman who could use them ;)

I have to say this by the way - Tom, your slogan "Safer, Stronger, Lighter" wouldnt look out of place on a condom advert.

52 runs in a full season on Saturday's ?!? your joking right, tell me your joking lol. If not then don't bother with a bat a bit of fence wood will do you OK and save you some money. You couldn't of played many games I'm guessing.

No didnt bat much on a saturday....374 on a Sunday vs 52 on a Saturday!

Had my bicep sewn back on in December 08 so was coming back from injury so tending to get put down the order on a saturday and was in for my fielding mainly.

Yeh averaged 76 in the 2nd's mate apparently lol bit of a step up in levels!

Its good your in the protection side of cricket then as some things tend not to work that well when sewn back on.
