Screaming Cat Professional Replica By Laver & Wood
« on: October 16, 2018, 05:43:31 AM »

Before last season I was getting a bit toey, it had been a while since I purchased a new bat. I saw Laver & Wood
had a 15% discount on their replication service, so I decided that was enough reason to get my fix and would get a
replica made of my Screaming Cat Professional to add to my collection.
I sent an email and got a reply from Anthony, who was top bloke and easy to deal with. He said that they didn't
need the bat just some photos, measurements and my specs for a replica to be made (I had my doubts). I bit
the bullet and took quite a few photos and quite a few measurements and sent them to Anthony.
As usual I pick the best of times to order a new bat cause L&W were doing their big move to Napier. Although the
band saw made it, it was in several pieces and they had to get a new one shipped in. I finally received my bat and
it was dam close replica and the finish was superb. In the hand it felt great, the pick-up and the balance was light
for the weight, just as if Julian made it himself. To achieve what they did from the information I sent does the boys at L&W credit.
After a season of use it performed as well as I could have hoped, the middle was massive and forgiving and quite a few shots
sounded like I was cracking whip not a bat. I wont say it's better than the Cat but I wont say it's not either, lets just say I would
hate to live on the difference.

Nice looking sticks.

From the photos it does look a bit like the edges are bigger and the spine is lower on the replica though. Is this the case and is this something you asked for? Does it effect how they play?

Well spotted, It was something that I ask for, 3mm off the spine and 3mm added on the edges. The idea was that it
might come off the blade even better when I hit the ball either side of the middle. Honestly it didn't make a bit of difference,
it still pinged off like the original Cat.

I gave Cat 1 & 2 a refurb a while ago in the off season thinking I would get some decals off Julian when he came back from his
holiday, but he came back and went straight to retirement. I took the old ones that I removed to a printer and the Graphic
Designer cleaned them up and made some copies.

Would be one of the easier replicas to make I would imagine. I send them some horrific requirements at times and they pretty much always get it spot on.
Look great.

Really must get a copy of mine done as this one looks bang on as you’d expect from someone who worked alongside Julian.

No pretty straight from recollection but haven’t picked it up in years as it now sits behind my monitor on my desk.

You have to ask, in terms of pure wood coverage, is there a better shape for a bat?
There is an argument for the tour shape, but they aren't as pretty.

At risk of getting banned from the forum I would have to say that I don’t get it. These Screaming Cats do nothing for me. Neither does the GM Purist.
Though I do appreciate the skill involved in copying a shape that well with only photos to go on.
