Hi all
I am looking to buy masuri helmet maybe legacy. I tried different sizes and finds small 55-58 fits fine but difficult to find that size in black or maroon colour.
So I tried youth size 55-57 cm and its cheaper.

So what's difference in youth and senior beside 1cm. Is grill gap gonna be tighter too.

It should specify on the box/description to what level it caters for and had been tested against either a 4.75 Oz or 5.5oz ball or both.

Eg my PremierTek steel covers both so has been tested by having both balls fired at the gap which is the same for both models @ 45mm

The Youth size upto 57cm will be cheaper as they are VAT exempt as a junior safety product.

It does say on box that it has been tested against junior ball.
But regarding sizing if it fits you, can you buy youth size rather small senior?

I mean it won't interfere with vision watching the ball? If gap between lid and grill is smaller due to being youth size.
I was thinking if it fits and actually cheaper I might buy youth size.
Similar scenario as SH Vs Harrow I guess.

No it doesn�t work like that it�s helmet specific as they are BSI/CE certified products unlike pads/gloves/elbow pads for skating etc that are classified as PPE level 2 that are self certified (something that won�t potentially save your life).

The debate for the committee came about as Strauss used to wear a junior sized lid so it was discussed when submitting helmets ou can ask for them to be tested against a junior/senior or both size balls.

The risk you�d take here is that if it�s only been tested against a junior penetration test is at 51mph with a lighter/smaller ball vs 63mph with an adult ball that a small senior will prob have been tested and carried against.

I would be concerned if any junior helmet hadn't been tested against senior weight balls. Given that juniors can play senior cricket from the age of 13 - or younger if they play county age group cricket - and wouldn't be able to wear a senior lid as it would be too large, any brand churning out junior helmets that aren't up to being used in adult cricket would be putting players at risk.

I use the smallest size mens helmet and has never thought to check the overlap with junior sizes. The only issue for me seems to be that the junior lids come with steel grills only

Thats due to the price point I suspect as seldom do parents want to spend big money on something the child will grow out of quickly.

Also why I keep our grille models interchangeable so that if said parent did buy a Titanium Youth helmet then they can take the grille with them when making the switch to senior size.

You can get junior masuris with Ti grilles. As Tom mentions, it isn't popular due to price.

GM tested some of their helmets against both balls. Can't remember which combination of junior/senior lid and junior/senior ball though.
