before we say how poor SA are not compared to the brilliance of a few years back, ask just what they are supposed to do?

most of their best players are over here or gone to the IPL, the SA board cannot pay the players properly for representing their Country-something that is an honour but also which should have rewards...

high time whoever runs cricket comes up with a level playing field to pay those equally in major tournaments?

will that ever happen I wonder or is just the reality of modern day sport?  ie could an SA or Zimbabwean player, or West Indies for that matter, ever be paid the same as a Australian or English player-say in a world cup or ICC tournament?

IMHO the Kolpak issue is a complete red herring, if you actually look at who they would be missing then it is only really Rilee Rossouw and maybe Olivier - although he only player 2 ODI's before giving up - so who knows what he would have been like with the white ball. All the others that are Kolpaks have never played, so weren't on the radar to be picked etc.... You can't include Morkel because he retired for Internationals and Abbott decided ages ago he wasn't going to play and is about to turn 33.

Their problem is they are an aging side with no decent youngsters coming through, they relied on the old guard, like ABdV for far too long without any plan for afterwards etc....

This isn’t strictly correct. Whilst you might be correct any the chaps that are in county cricket might be mere bench players for their national side, the with those 15-20 unavailable it can lead to complacency amongst those remaining players. The likes of Duminy and Miller rarely preform yet they know they’ll still get picked.

I’d say Roussow, Abbott, de Lange and Olivier would most definitely be in the current squad. South Africa where so short of players they picked two injured ones in Steyn and Ngidi.

De Kock with an above average catch to remove Kholi

Not as good as Stokes' one, though... ;)

Being a keeper, I would rate this better than stokes. He covered 2.77 meters in a split second.

I would argue that as a keeper myself he should catch those as often as outfielders at this level catch skiers. Yes he travelled 2.77 meters but he would also be 20M back with a great view and hours of practise. Either way both great catches

I thought if a player is already injured when the final deadline for picking the squad is reached, how did SA get to replace Steyn?

Poor from SA and I think they are done with this WC.

SA said Steyn suffered a second injury to the same shoulder
