looks a decent squad,

feel for Denly, he was picked on the back of top order runs and a few overs for Kent and then asked to bowl plenty of overs and bat down the order, doesn't quite add up but stereotypical England, pick someone as they've done well doing something then ask them to do the opposite and winder why they're not performing as well!

I just hope plunektt finds a bit of form and can get a bit of pace back that hes seemed to be missing for a while!

He got a fair few chances with the bat without ever really doing anything though didn’t he. And the spot they were looking to fill is for a back up spinner primarily.

always tough when it comes to the crunch, didn't think Denly would make the final cut but you have to feel a bit sorry for Willey

essentially Archer has taken his place.

hard but the right call I think to get the very best players in the starting 11

Willey will not be happy today. Especially unfortunate as hes bowled pretty well in the Pakistan series

he is one of the player outspoken about losing his place to someone just coming in to the squad.

not sure who could of been left out, only thing I would say myself is Plunkett...maybe Wood and save him for the Ashes?

once Archer shows his skills he had to play really....

Archer had to come in and Dawson for Denly made sense. I would have taken Willey in place of Wood however

Dawson for Denly i think was a pretty simple choice.

It's defiantly harsh on Willey but when you look at who is going to/can bowl when (out of the seamers), then Willey simply was always going to be the one left out.

New Ball - Woakes and Archer (or Wood) will get the new ball over him (even with the Left Arm option difference)
Middle overs - Plunkett, Archer, Wood, Woakes and Curran are all options who have pace and/or variation to take wickets in the middle
Death overs - Archer and Curran are specialist death bowlers - miles better the Willey

Willey has 5 overs at the start and not that much else - as shown when the Pakistan tailenders took a liking to him the other day

maybe that game swayed the selectors a bit. Woakes bowled well, andas @edge pointed out Curran has come in and done well, scored runs in pressure situations too.

Wood has a history of injury, perhaps he was a borderline pick, extra pace yes but he is not out and out fast anymore.

all in all it looks like the best team we could have will get on the park. Archer could be a big boost for us.

I feel sorry for Willey but a few overs of swing isn't a particularly valuable addition to England's bowling tool box so I understand why he was left out.

No issues with Archer for Willey in the squad but I get the feeling that ECB changed the qualification rules from 7 to 3 years just to ensure that Archer will qualify before WC and Ashes.
