Amazed that guys on here are being so harsh on Pant. I am admittedly a fan of hit and giggle cricket, but genuinely believe him to be one of the most exciting cricketers in years. The way he has cleared the ropes in IPL for a couple of years now, show that when he's in, there's almost nobody better. His scoring areas are unique and he seems difficult to bowl to.

Experiences such as playing in the World Cup can only serve to shape the young man and take him to the next level IMO.

I rate Pant and as I said, he shows exciting promise!! But in my opinion he just isn't ready yet.
If they continue to give him experience then I think he will become a fantastic player.

Sure he has potential, but is he ready for WC especially playing at number 4.  I do not believe he is ready.  If India continue to play him he either bats at 6 or 7 or have him open and have him swing away.

Dharwan will be back soon and that gives India some power up front, he may have a mixed record but can get hundreds. Pant at the expense of Jadeja is madness but correct me if im wrong Pant keeps wicket.

I don't know what Dhoni was doing against us I suppose in the Indian team its impossible to have Dhoni stand aside for Pant?    I guess that will never work replacing an icon of India.

For a ‘hit and giggle’ batsman, Pant averages nearly 50 in Test cricket - so I think he boy can play.

India’s selections are bizarre though. Pant is an opener in limited overs cricket and as such he should’ve opened with Rohit. Rohit for whatever reason doesn’t want to be aggressive in PP1, whilst Rahul whom is free flowing in the IPL struggles to hit the ball of the cut strip.

Kuldeep is a passenger, was dreadful in the IPL and has been atrocious in the World Cup.

Jadeja should be playing ahead of Kuldeep and Karthik instead of Jadhav.

Vijay Shanker has been ruled out with a broken foot and replaced by Agarwal. He should replace Rahul

If Pant is in the team he needs to play as keeper, which will not happen until Dhoni retires.  I feel sorry for Karthik.  The guys gets selected in the original 15 but does not get any games, unless India consider him strictly a backup keeper.  He is also a better fielder than Pant.

I personally think pant is India’s future. And needed by India to chase the bigger scores.

But I think 4 is currently to high for him, unless they play him as the Roy style opener.

Anyway, West Indies need 85 off 56. Only 4 wickets left but pooran  is looking good.

We reckon they are gonna start blocking out soon? 339 is a big score to chase........ oh wait Allen is trying and succeeding to hit boundaries.

I was there today @petehosk it was a great game of cricket!! Just a shame WI couldn’t hold on to a couple of wickets so there was a batsman in at the end to take it closer

Had they not managed to run Allen out, I reckon windies would have had it.

Both teams out of he tournament before the match today and gave everything to win it....

Which makes India's effort yesterday a bit embarrassing.

SL and WI a credit to the game. Brilliant stuff.

I suspect that WI may have chased it down if a certain Dre was playing!!

Makes sense to me:

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/27097247/blame-dhoni-boundary-better-side-won

I agree. Eng played much much better than India did. No point blaming MSD for it. I do remember MSD said this- It's not an easy job, it does not always work your way. When you finish a lot many games, people always remember the ones you have not finished.
